I am trying to make a low poly map, basic design, any tips before I start? Etc: Never do this, textures, placement
Your going to need to be a bit more specific.
Low poly, is just making things with low triangle count. if you a roblox developer you have been doing low poly this entire time. Even every showcase game you have ever seen is low poly. Like @ComplicatedParadigm said, not specific enough.
But if you mean low poly in the way that most ROBLOX developers use it, here’s a tip.
Being Low poly means the tool box is absolutely full of assets that will most likely match your game with tiny amounts of tweaking. Literally all you have to do is find a model, select all the parts, and turn it to smooth plastic and work from there, unlike highpoly were you need to basically make custom everything or it doesn’t fit, low poly is a literal cake walk if you have a sense of space and an eye for that kind of art.
These tips apply mainly to simulator maps since i don’t know exactly what you are talking about. So here are some tips iguess:
- Variation. When using the same asset multiple times, make sure to rotate and resize them. Even change the colors up a bit (bit lighter, bit darker etc)
- Don’t use dark textures; set transparency to like .9 or .8
- Fill up your map, don’t make it look empty.
- Use particles, these can really make your game look a lot better. Don’t overuse it though since low-end devices cannot handle too many of them.
- Implement height differences in your map.
- Avoid patterns. Don’t make it look like parts of your map are just copy-pasted.
- Be creative and original. Nobody likes to see the exact same styles in every game, develop your own style and be creative with it!
