my post was linked here earlier so i’ll provide some insight on what i dealt with and what caused it to stop (although it wasn’t really a solution, i moved to a different place)
at the time, i had DSL wifi which means it ran through the telephone lines instead of a modern cable. for years it worked fine, but then suddenly i started having the issue of it causing my wifi to go down.
other people in my house were able to get onto Roblox just fine with no issues on their computers. the difference between our computers were that they had wifi built into their motherboards. i was using a USB wifi antenna.
my guess as to why it worked for years, and then stopped, is that Roblox probably implemented some new networking thing behind the scenes. it’s likely that some modern Roblox features rely on that (and that it can’t be changed by them). i think that, combined with my computer’s cheap networking setup, interfered with something and caused my internet to give up.
before i moved, i was actually able to go on Roblox games for around 15-30 minutes at a time before disconnecting. i think i was also able to use Studio without disconnecting too. i did nothing to cause this though, it just happened.
if i were you, i would try playing on a different computer and see if it works. if so, you could try ethernet and maybe that will work. if not, you may need to install a motherboard with built in wifi or get a new computer/laptop.
take this all with a grain of salt though, i am not a networking professional and all of this is purely anecdotal.
Using DSL internet in 2025 must be painful. It already was for me some years ago. I got a fiber internet connection and I still do suffer some problems from time to time, now imagine a person with DSL internet. Even having 4G/5G internet connection is way better than DSL.
Sadly i am currently unable to afford any new pc components, a new system, or better wifi, and although i do have a couple other pcs in my house, roblox isnt installed on either as im not the one using them
Gladly this issue has been gradually growing less severe, and itll only br every once in a while where i disconnect. Rarely get over 10k ping outside kf loading. And i am also using an antenna for wifi
Can confirm 4g is better than dsl. Im on Adsl tho which is i think worse
Funny thing is, i never had a problem up until last july, even an old, cheap laptop from 2015 is able to run it fine (although smtn in it did break in 2019, causing it to just turn off if anything even slightly intensive is done on it)
I have a burning question that seems tangentially related - why does Roblox, and only Roblox, insist on using my PC’s wireless adapter over my ethernet connection, considering my wireless adapter doesn’t even have internet access?
wouldnt be too sure abt that since im using a wifi connection, although my speed was marginably better on my old pc which did have an ethernet cable
also should roblox be using 13Mbps of my network? cause it really doesnt look like it should be eating up THAT MUCH of my network, and after letting a game load it maxes out at 8 and usually sits between 0.1 and 4
@alphavoyager ik this was intended to be closed, but ive just edited this topics opening message with things ive noticed causing this issue. would appreciate if this gets passed onto engineers so they can check for any issues in the engine code which may cause this. ik it might be an issue with my network but several people are having similar if not the exact same issues im having starting at a similar if not the exact same time, which is an extremely weird pattern for it being a device issue, so im just suggesting you request engineers to have a look into it just to be sure
a few people from this thread have also been having this issue
crazyblox also picked up on this pattern and suggested it could be to do with the windows version of the player
there are a few more instances of my issue or stupidly high ping i can find from other people in separate threads or images from up to 3 years ago, but the first 4 quotes are directly from this thread stating similar if not identical experiences to what im having
here its shown in the “a few things to note” part of this threads opening that littlebird was having almost identical issues to me, even trying many of the same ways of fixing it that i have both done and been suggested to do to no avail much like how they went with me, even stating that having his router replaced several times didnt fix the issue
Bandwidth usage by Roblox player may vary due to following factors
1. Game needs: If the specific game loads large number of assets to begin with, the Roblox player will try to load as fast as it can. This is done with the assumption that the player is waiting to start playing and Roblox player should utilize the available BW as much as it can.
2. Cache size and disk capacity: Roblox player caches assets to local disk to avoid downloading them every time. However, the cache usage is capped. The cache capacity depends on the device type and available disk capacity. The cache typically will have recently downloaded assets. So if the player is frequently switching between games, it may overwrite previously downloaded assets and the Roblox player will have to download assets each time which can cause increased bandwidth usage.
That is understandable but roblox using just over 1.5Mb of my network when it only accounts for 20kb is likely whats causing it. It shouldnt be using over 80x the bandwidth that its designed to use cause that is probably gonna cause wifi crashes, especially since ping is directly related to bandwidth
The patterns between me and several others are too close for it to be a device issue too, where everyone whos experienced the same issue only experiences it in roblox
Its usage is comparable to a ddos attack too since sometimes it disconnects devices in other rooms
Ping just growing is also probably caused by this and just keeps growing until all assets are loaded. Roblox seems to download more per second as the clients network lags more and more which jist boosts ping even further since it needs more babdwidth
Actually im pretty sure ive seen roblox use over 50mbps of data a few times. Thats 6.25Mb which is 312x higher than what it should be using
Which usually causes my wifi to crash almost instantly
