I am wanting to import a 3d model of a sphere, but I am unsure how I can do that since I do not have blender. I do use Onshape though.
Is there anything I need to do before I fully commit to this? Like is there any concern over polygons and stuff?

W fellow OnShape user
I haven’t tried to export stuff from there to Roblox Studio, but there are export options by right-clicking a ‘part studio’. OBJ and GLTF would be the two Roblox would let you import, that I know of. No FBX on OnShape.
GLTF has more file info than OBJ, but I’m not sure what info you’d get from OnShape (material and bones/animation like Blender?).
It’d be trial and error really. I can recommend looking here for import info: https://create.roblox.com/docs/art/modeling/3d-importer. ![]()
It’s mainly just the body of an object I am making. It’s not anything for animating. Thanks!
Also about polygons:
How would onShape polygons work? Because I know Roblox acts weird around high-poly models, and that is what OnShape has.
You can change the fidelity/quality when exporting from OnShape, but you wouldn’t be able to control the verts. It’s presets, so you’d probably want to choose the lowest option there
It’d be more an automatic generation based on the quality you set, if that makes sense
You could always import into Blender or something to decimate or lower the polycount, but I digress
I have a sphere-shaped model. How would I change the preset in order to have it look good in studio?
and if I mess up, I can still overwrite the existing model?
The coarse option for OBJ and GLTF is the the lowest. Not all export options have a Resolution setting. Here’s more info: Exporting Files.
You can always export from OnShape in different ways to override the mesh in studio. The export is different from what’s displayed in OnShape, like it wouldn’t update what’s seen, just exported
Thanks, man! It worked very well. The initial mesh is like less than a stud in size but it worked, haha!
