Making a fun & interesting horror game?

I’m interested in making horror games. As a matter of fact, I’ve released one recently: Corruption. See, I get a lot of feedback saying:

“It’s so boring, you just find items and unlock things.”
“You are over-complicating a simple plot.”
“This is such a bad game.”

I’ve dealt with these things before with my previous horror game gathering a ratio of 53% as of now. If you look in the top horror games such as The Mimic, it has many mazes and grueling tasks to complete in order to move on. Yet, it has much positive feedback and a big community waiting for updates.

What I’m asking is how I would make a horror game that would be interesting and not boring. What would a horror game need? How could you go making a horror game without grueling tasks?

creeping horror maybe. i dont play nor make horror games. but i think suspense and paranoia works pretty well–like hearing something run down the hallway as you walk into a room and the door slowly closes.

If you play with high obsecurity, your game dies.
If you use another avatar for the players, your game dies.
If you use put insane jumpscares, your game dies.
Keep with artistic horror!

Its ok!
