Im currently making a work in an office building game and am not sure if i should restrict players character customization options in favor of in game character outfits and accessories which fit the theme. In what instances is it advantageous to do that? will limiting customization options hurt the overall perception?

I’d say make the custom character options part of the main game mechanic.
Like a player could go from their original avatar to disguising as a fake (Custom outfit) co-worker to sneak past employees and complete a mission of some kind.
Thats my take!
Roblox is a social hangout. A lot of players like this customize and show off their personal style. There’s also a lot of players who just want to play interesting games.
The only thing that’s important for you is to know who audience you’d prefer.
