Marketplace Items Appear Invisible

This is how MILLIONS of Roblox users who are currently using add-ons/extensions are seeing items in the marketplace right now:

For the past several weeks, nearly every item published to the marketplace looks invisible for millions of users who are using addons. Buyers are “skipping” right past these items because they assume its broken. This hasnt just affected one creator - its directly impacting sales, visibility, and the marketplace’s health. With millions using extensions like BTRoblox, we’re talking about massive numbers of skipped items and lost revenue.

I am not asking that Roblox fix the extension’s bug, thats in the hands of the extension developer.

I am informing staff of the significant damage that this bug has, and continues to incur on the health of the marketplace - a direct concern for Roblox since this issue has led in large amounts of lost revenue for both the platform and its creators.

I am also pointing towards a larger concern here: Marketplace items are being seen and interacted by millions of users the way the extension developer wants it - NOT how Roblox wants it.

This is an extremely important fix, for both the short-term and the long-term, to ensure the overall health of the Roblox marketplace - to ensure that all marketplace items are viewed the same, without third-party bugs intentionally or unintentionally producing differences that tip the balance.

Third-party extension developers should not be the ones determining how millions of players see and interact with marketplace creations. This is not only unsustainable, its financially damaging to all parties.

The BTRoblox developer has not fixed this issue for weeks, leaving the fate of hundreds of thousands of sales in their hands, and out of the hands of Roblox and us creators. It has already caused significantly decreased sales so far, and will continue to until this is fixed.

I am urging, on behalf of the community, to find an immediate resolve to this problem.

To clarify, even assets from creators that are in the asset program and have marked both their mesh and their textures as “Open Use” are invisible.

My peers have also noticed this ‘invisibility’ - it does not seem to be device, browser, or user-specific.

The creations are clearly visible in the thumbnail, 2D try-on, and while worn in-game. It appears to be specifically the 3D Try-On viewer, and while hovering over the creation with your mouse in marketplace that the items are invisible (with the BTRoblox browser extension).

Additional examples of the visual bug are provided below. The creations are invisible on the avatar.

not sure if this is the same issue but this also happens to Roblox hats with scripts in them.

I’m assuming this is an issue with the BTRoblox browser plugin. “Asset Access” beta was introduced recently, which allows creators control over who can use their assets. If an asset is used in an accessory and is not open use, it may be prevented from appearing in the BTRoblox item previewer.

There are few (approximately 5%) of the recently published creations that are still visible with the BTRoblox browser plugin. That adds another level of confusion. How were they able to make their creations visible?

Creators probably have not enrolled in the asset access beta. That or the 5% are all emotes, which for some reason are not effected by this (at least not that I’ve seen).

My peers have, and have not turned it on to avoid conflicts with extensions.

See this is whats strange. This is an asset that was created 2 hours ago, and its not an emote. It is one of the rare 5% of assets that are visible in the 3D try on view. Roblox needs to figure this out because millions of people have these extensions and now wont buy items in the marketplace because they think the item they are trying to try on is invisible (thanks to them trying it in the 3D Try-On preview)

It’s funny how big of a problem this is and that it hasn’t been fixed

Are there item links? There’s absolutely nothing here for the staff to investigate or follow up on

This issue has, and continues to affect hundreds of items daily.

However, it would be a good idea to include a few examples - cheers.

These are a few (of the many) items that are invisible in the 3D Try-On with BTRoblox add-on.

Why should Roblox care? this translates to hundreds of thousands of sales that are actively being lost since the millions of users who use this add-on will go on the thousands of affected items profiles’ and assume that the items are invisible and not make a purchase. This is also actively preventing creators from uploading right now, as we are unsure as to whether or not we should publish to the marketplace at all if our items are invisible.

I hope this gets fixed as soon as possible and that Roblox consider creating their own UI as it would significantly improve item sales and visibility.

On Roblox’s website, both the 3D and 2D previews work perfectly fine on sample items when no website extensions are enabled.

It looks like an issue related to the website extension, as you mentioned. Judging by how the interface appears, this seems to be a bug that directly concerns the third-party extension developers. You can report it to them, since I don’t think there’s anything Roblox itself can do about it.

This is a BTRoblox browser extension issue. Roblox’s default 2D/3D “Try On” feature works fine.

This is not related to the asset privacy beta. I’m pretty sure this is because the extension is currently unable to render meshes uploaded in Roblox’s latest mesh format. This happens every time Roblox enables the uploading of meshes in a new mesh format version. Keep in mind that the Roblox mesh format is purely an internal technical thing, not really something that is accessible to devs.

It’s pretty crazy just how many times people report bugs on the DevForum that are actually the fault of a third-party browser extension. So many people heavily rely on extensions that modify the website to the point where they forget what the unmodified website looks like. Roblox should really start taking notes from some popular extensions.

Yes,

This is an important point that must be addressed.

As of right now, there are millions of users who use BTRoblox or similar add-ons.

What does this mean?

Thousands of creations from varying creators now have millions of users who are not seeing their creations in the marketplace due to the invisibility bug they see while using the extension(s).

So?

  1. Both Roblox and its creators are losing out on thousands of sales daily as users wont see the item on their avatar and assume that it is not worth purchasing given that it is invisible.

  2. The few creations (5%) that are visible since their latest update have an extremely unfair advantage - the marketplace becomes an unfair playground.

  3. Creators have stopped posting their creations because they are seeing their creations appear invisible in the marketplace. They are assuming that this is just a visual bug that will be resolved.

  4. To enhance the user-experience and drive sales for all creations, it would be worth it to create their own (a) 3D Try-On Menu for users, and (b) an option to hover over items while scrolling in the marketplace to see a quick preview of the item on users avatars.

So, while this may not be an internal issue per se, it is most definitely a massive concern that is plagueing Roblox and its creators right now, and the recent modification of Roblox’s latest mesh format has been the source of this issue.

Investing in making these “simple” features would again, not only drive millions upon millions of more sales (given that these features make it easier for users to quickly make a decision and purchase the items), but it would avoid reliance on extensions and ensure the marketplace truly is a fair playground where all creations share the same visibility.

The issue here is NOT that Roblox sites “3D” previews work perfectly with no extensions enabled.

Millions of Roblox players DO have extensions enabled and DO use them actively when deciding on purchasing creations.

So? These millions of players are NOT seeing what you showed in the video, they’re seeing just their avatar - with no creation visibly worn on their avatar (see OP; thanks to the invisibility bug).

Thats the exact problem.

Millions of players are not seeing thousands of creations on their avatar, quickly assuming it is (or has the risk of being) invisible while worn, and they end up not purchasing the creation.

Not only has this significantly damaged thousands of potential sales, it will continue to do so and create an uneven marketplace as creations without the bug “win-out”.

Exactly, so can you pass that on to the extension developer since Roblox is not in charge of updating it and Roblox’s website works fine, it’s a problem with their browser extensions.

You are missing the point.

I’m encouraging two potential solutions:

  1. Roblox improves current UI to make items in the marketplace quickly visible (faster response times when users press the 3D Try On, and even better - make 3D Try On the first visual when users click on a marketplace item in a browser).

  2. Roblox slightly adjusts their asset configuration settings with BTRoblox (works with them) to prevent this invisibility problem entirely.

It doesn’t make sense to depend on the developers of these extensions/add-ons to fix these problems because that would mean the extension developers can influence sales/item visibility on the marketplace on behalf of Roblox.

As mentioned, millions of Roblox players use these add-ons/extensions which means millions of players are clicking on marketplace items and seeing the items as invisible. It is beneficial for both Roblox, and its dedicated creators, to work towards these 2 solutions so that the millions of players using these add-ons/extensions aren’t walking away from purchases.

As for passing this information to the extension developers, I have done that as well. However, this issue requires them working together, and I am trying to shed some light on this matter for the staff to be aware of the current state.

But it does make sense when you come to the conclusion that this has nothing to do with anything like asset privacy being a thing because, as someone explained above, this is more than likely due to said extension not having been updated to work with a new internal file format Roblox uses for meshes.

In fact, it’s more concerning that the extension developers didn’t consider this scenario and have it display a error explaining that the issue is on their end and not Roblox’s.

I’ve double checked. Even assets with their mesh and textures set as “Open Use” are invisible.

Yes, but again thats the HUGE problem here.

That’s basically saying that Roblox and Marketplace creators should put the fate of their marketplace sales and visibility on a third-party extension developer.

Right now, the extension developer decides:

  1. marketplace visibility (what items are visible to buyers as is the case here)
  2. marketplace purchases (people will “skip” invisible items after trying to try it on)

…this impacts the MILLIONS of Roblox players who are using this extension right now.

So now, if this extension developer suddenly cant “keep up” with Roblox’s updates, both Roblox AND the ugc item creators suffer from lost visibility, sales, and marketplace control. And thats whats happened here.

That’s why its very important right now that Roblox addresses this issue and seeks a swift solution. Otherwise, millions of Roblox players are going to “skip over” all these recent marketplace creations since they look invisible when they try to try it on. Meaning, both they, and us creators are going to potentially miss out on hundreds of thousands of sales.

Exactly — and that’s where the problem becomes crystal clear. Take something as simple as the Alien Legs from 1987. On their own, they’re just a fun, quirky accessory that creators put time into designing. But when extensions step in and start deciding which items are visible or invisible, the fate of something like those Alien Legs suddenly isn’t in the hands of Roblox or the creator anymore — it’s at the mercy of whether an outside developer can keep up with Roblox’s latest changes.

If the extension breaks and those Alien Legs appear “invisible” when someone tries them on, players are going to skip right past them. That doesn’t just impact one creator — it directly impacts sales, visibility, and the overall health of the marketplace. And with millions of players using these extensions right now, we’re talking about potentially massive numbers of skipped items and lost revenue.

This is why Roblox needs to step in with a direct solution. Relying on third-party developers to essentially manage how millions of players see and interact with marketplace items is unsustainable and unfair to both players and creators. Without Roblox addressing it swiftly, we’ll keep seeing situations where great creations — whether it’s Alien Legs from 1987 or brand-new items from today — get completely overlooked simply because of an extension glitch.

My guy changed the title to absolute clickbait :folded_hands:

As countless others have mentioned, Roblox does not make fixes for bugs with extensions. The onus is on the extension developers here. You can keep arguing, but you’re misusing the category and this report will be closed
