As it currently stands (post the Age Verification update) I’m consistently being matched into servers with insanely high latency, with sometimes random spikes that reign from 200ms up to 4000ms in the same server.
Before the Age Verification update, I used to be able to play in the servers that I have the best ping, such as Brazilian servers, however, after the Age Verification update, I began being benchmarked to servers so far away that it makes me question if the match making service is working as expected, as I’m being dragged up to Australia, while I live in South America. This has made unplayable a wide variety of games since the connection is incredibly unstable.
I rather not chat with people than bearing with ping spikes that make the entire platform unplayable. I would circumvent this with private servers, and I have had done it, however most games have paid private servers or do not have this feature enabled at all due to the way the games are designed.
Expected behavior
Be properly matchmaked into servers which are sufficiently nearby to my location, which would have vastly lower ping and a much more stable connection, including perhaps an entire option just named Prioritize Connection Quality or Prioritize Social Interaction, it is simply unbearable to play as it currently stands, as I keep being benchmarked to servers with an unstable connection due to my age group.
Try contacting the developer of whatever game you enjoy playing the most and ask them to give the latency setting a higher weight
I would love it if players could specify their own preferences like preferlatency or preferchat and have those settings integrate with the current matchmaking system.
Roblox by default will matchmake automatically with age as a more important thing than latency. This causes terrible latency, and I firmly believe it shouldn’t be the responsibility of a user to notify a developer that the game is virtually unplayable due to a setting that is set by default to be in such way…
I agree it shouldn’t be the job of the player, but instead the developer of the experience.
I think it would make sense for games set as specific genres like shooter genre then it should automatically prefer latency, but that would be more of a feature request than a bug report.
I’d consider it a bug report, since it greatly impacts the experience in many games. Previously, I could bear with the 200ms+ ping because I was being constantly sent to servers in the United States, however, post update, I’m being sent to servers as far as Australia, which creates an insanely unstable connection, so bad that I get jittering every time, it is simply unreasonable to have the matchmaking allow such a thing, it makes playing Roblox simply impossible because of it, which is why I labeled it a bug report and not a feature request, the matchmaking is doing terrible choices for where to connect me to, so bad that they result in horrible connections for all games I play, and while the developer could take part in it, it is unlikely they have set a custom matchmaking setting already, meaning it’s likely the default matchmaking at play, and Roblox should not allow the matchmaking to make such terrible matching when there are arbitrarily better servers available for the player to connect, even if it’s not near my age group, I want to enjoy the games, 99% of the time chatting was not even a concern, now I simply cannot play games due to this.
