Maturity & Compliance Questionnaire UX is extremely tedious

As a Roblox developer, it is a tedious slog to submit the maturity and compliance questionnaire over and over again, for multiple games, every time there is an update to it.

  • Every question is presented one per page. Some sub-questions are on the same page.
  • The question and its choices are on the very far left.
  • The button to continue is on the very far right.

For every question, I have to move my mouse across the entire page to click on very precise options that are right beside each other. Then I have to move all the way back to the save and continue button. If I make a mistake, it may have significant and potentially long term or irreversible impact on my game.

The current layout is causing me to be more careless with selecting the radio buttons since I have filled this form out before, many times.

With the frequency Roblox demands that we manually re-do this questionnaire, this page needs to have better UX for choosing and reviewing our responses. Whipping my mouse back and forth across the screen dozens of times for something I’ve already done before is going to cause me to make very dangerous mistakes, even if there is a review page at the end.

  • At minimum I would like to see this page auto-advance to the next question when you choose for all questions on the page. The user can press the back button if they make a mistake.

  • It could be nice to be able to see and answer all of these questions all at once in a one-pager. I could just click a button to open a modal to see the full question description.

I have to submit this thing 13 times today so that my community can continue to access my historical content. You can make this better.

I’m through 5 so far and my wrist is actually getting sore.

I think that this should be extended to the entire creator dashboard site as a whole. The legacy develop pages were WAY more efficient, and I could do things about 50x faster, because everything was in its own place and didn’t take up 90% of the screen. I wish that they brought it back.

However, wishes aside, this is a massive issue especially if there are multiple experience that need to be immediately updated due to the recent changes. Here are my complaints with the current design:

  • The pages load too slowly, likely because they use a slow UI framework.
  • The fonts are too large. The size should be about 12pt at most.
  • There is only one question per page. There should be all of them on a single page.
  • The text is not easy to read when it is stretched out to the entire wide screen. Text should be condensed into the center, like the legacy develop pages, and the Developer Forum.
  • There is no proper keyboard support.

This, and making the questionnaire easier to access (not behind several menus) would improve the efficiency of this process greatly, easing the current pain that developers currently experience.

Yeah, it does seem like the questionnaire is in a bad place navigationally. All of these borderline identical looking options, but ignoring a specific one of them prevents almost 50% of the platform from being able to play your game. This page isn’t placed very well for the importance it has.

Something that annoys me about this process is that the questions are ones that have been answered before already. But if Roblox adds anything new to it, we are required to do the entire questionnaire all over again despite our answers not having changed. There needs to be a better way to handle this, because we’re spending multiple minutes carefully answering questions which if answered wrong can either restrict our experiences or get us in trouble. I don’t want to have to read the confusingly-worded questions every time one of the questions is changed or a new one is added. I just want to answer the new question.

Hello, we shipped a bunch of improvements - can you see if most of your concerns are addressed? And feel free to suggest more improvements.

It’s better, I don’t have to whip my mouse around anymore, but it’s still very long and the questions blur together after a while. The last few recently added ones about video content and sharing sound very similar to each other, exacerbating the issue.

It would still be nice to have an alternative view for all of these questions that displays them in a table of some kind, so I can see all of the questions in short form all at once (without all of the extra clarifying info cluttering the page, I don’t need to read this text at all after a while). This would allow me to compare the questions and answers so I can make sure I haven’t mixed up any similar ones while processing many questionnaires at once (e.g. I have two published games of the same game for development purposes, I know other devs have … many). This also opens the door to letting us do these in bulk for many games at once in the same interface.

The buttons are jumping up & down because they’re bottom-anchored after the changing lengths of text. This is annoying and I still have many dozens of games left to do this for. ):

An alternative view like pezsmistic described would be more preferred. Seeing the yes/no’s you’ve selected for a game at-a-glance (and changing them in that view) would be great.

Hi all, we’ve shipped another batch of updates. Would love your feedback again @PeZsmistic @Maelstronomer @SubtotalAnt8185

We’re also looking at whether we can move the location of the questionnaire to somewhere more prominent so it’s more discoverable. Open to suggestions. Thank you all for your input so far!

I really enjoy the new format, it’s much more comfortable, and quicker to progress through.

I do have some feedback about it:

I noticed that the page reacts quite badly when the foldout automatically switches to the next one; the page jumps really jarringly as one foldout closes and the other opens and the scroll is automatically snapped to the next question, all simultaneously. I feel like I’ve barely had time to click (let alone check that I clicked on the right option) before I’m looking at the next question feeling a little lost and confused.

Also, I don’t like how the foldout closes and hides your answer from you. At the very end you have this view, which completely obscures all of the answers, so I don’t feel very safe clicking the “Send” button which doesn’t communicate that there’s actually a second page before the answers are actually sent/submitted. This flow is confusing.

I would suggest 3 things:

  • Make the question transition feel smoother.
  • Show an overview of your response on the question foldout header (No, Yes, Yes…).
  • Change the label on the “Send” button to “Review”. Maybe use ellipses to communicate there is another page, i.e. “Review…”.
