Mesh Blending - A post-processing effect

As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to combine environment assets without creating seams that look artificial and unsightly.

If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my development experience because I’d be able to create more beautiful and immersive natural environments.

Here are some screenshots of the issue I’m describing from Roblox’s Realistic Forest Demo:

The developers of Subnautica 2 recently showcased how they’re addressing this problem in their game with a feature they implemented called “Mesh Blend”. It’s a post-processing effect that detects asset seams and blends the pixels along the seam, and the results look really great.

Here’s a 30s clip demonstrating their solution: https://www.youtube.com/clip/UgkxSqLoUyB_qYBJPm3xgEPd3bqswAOIRcvb

I think the use-cases are self-explanatory, but if anyone disagrees let me know.

I stand for this, Roblox’s textures also only support 1024x1024, having 1 large mesh and 1 small mesh with the same resolution texture would further exagerate this effect.

This would be so cool, would totally bridge the gap between mesh authored worlds and smooth terrain.

Absolutely! This seems like a great way to make worlds that are more seamless and pleasing to look at, especially for natural worlds like the ones you showed.

This is not a want this is a NEED!

i see this maybe being implemented under terrain almost like maybe it literally bakes the blend onto terrain. See now as much as that sounds great in concept studio has yet to support baked lighting and shadowmaps but its still a great idea overall.

Would prove to be extremely useful, this is needed so bad!
