Appreciate it, and fair — if Blender already does what you need, there’s no reason to pay for something solving a problem you don’t have.
To be clear on what Meshie’s actually for, though: it’s not just ‘Blender is hard,’ it’s the round-trip — export, reimport, repeat, every time you iterate. That’s real enough that Roblox’s own team is actively building tools to reduce it. Besides, Meshie isn’t really here to take Blender’s place in the pipeline, it’s truly to be our own mesh editor for Roblox Studio.
As I did say elsewhere, the direct comparisons between Blender and Meshie, that’s on me, so I totally understand what you’re getting at.
I don’t think this holds, though. Plenty do fine on this platform when they solve a real problem well. Not a promise I get there, just that the premise doesn’t hold.
Your plugin is in the 3d modeling category, which isn’t that really useful, when you can use Blender to quickly export the mesh file you want. I understand this is very convenient for modeling inside the Roblox Studio.
For example, in the animation category
An animation plugin can benefit from being integrated inside of Roblox Studio because Roblox Studio gives you presets for a character rig, you can export the file exactly the way you animate it.
It’s difficult to use Blender for animations because you have to make the rigs, you have to make the bones and you have to make the animation look the way it was in blender when you export it to Roblox Studios.
The only thing I see Blender being better than a Roblox animation plugin is that you can animate detail characters or very complex rigs.
Doesn’t sound messy at all! I think I see what you’re getting at.
I think it’s really just the domains in which different types of plugins operate. I won’t lie, animation plugins definitely fill a MUCH more obvious and prominent gap than Meshie does.
An animation does not port well into Roblox the same way a mesh does. But still, I feel that creating one good textured and optimized mesh asset could and should feel as natural as building with Parts in Roblox.
I feel where Meshie will truly reveal it’s worth is in mass creation of assets. Something I’ve not really done a great job showing off with that pitiful sword timelapse in the OP . There’s something about just having all the right tools in one place, simplified and organized, that really makes a pipeline feel… good. If that makes sense.
I feel like I paid modeling plugin could fail or be less popular, but I could be proven wrong. Who knows maybe Meshie becomes a good and well liked plugin
