Misleading Error Message When Editing Comments or Posts on Locked Posts

When a user attempts to edit their own comment or original post on a locked forum post, the system displays the following error message upon submission:

“Your comment does not meet our moderation standards. Please revise and try posting again.”

This message is misleading, as the issue isn’t related to moderation standards, it’s due to the thread being locked. The error message should instead clearly state the true cause, such as:

“This post is locked. You must unlock it before editing this comment or post.”

Expected Behavior:

  • Users should be clearly informed that the thread is locked and that editing is not allowed unless it’s unlocked.
  • Alternatively, the “Edit Post/Comment” option should be disabled entirely when a thread is locked to prevent confusion.

Impact:
Average users may be confused by the current wording, especially since the system still allows them to open the edit interface, leading them to believe they can make changes. This behavior affects:

  • Users attempting to edit their own comments on locked threads.
  • Original posters trying to edit the title or body of their locked thread.

Recommendation:
Update the error message to reflect the actual cause (thread lock), or prevent the edit action entirely when a thread is locked.
