Roblox has increasingly used recognizable and high-value collectible keywords such as “valkyrie” and “sparkle time fedora” in new catalog or event items that bear almost no resemblance to the iconic accessories those names reference.
The Specter Time Fedora name suggests it’s part of the “Sparkle Time Fedora” line, which is known for shiny textures and a specific fedora shape. Instead, it looks dull, lacks sparkle or polish, and has a completely different structure. Players drawn to the name believe it’s a new addition to the popular sparkle series, only to find an unrelated hat.
The Helsworn Valkyrie name is even more misleading. Classic Valkyrie helms have always had atleast three feathers, buttons and a basic helm structure. While the Helsworn Valkyrie maintains the overall shape of a Valkyrie Helm, it doesn’t bear any resemblance otherwise, and overall doesn’t look as close to the original as most would expect for an item literally named “Valkyrie”.
These examples show a broader issue with Roblox’s naming and marketing. Using powerful, familiar keywords to label unrelated items misleads players and damages trust. It blurs the meaning of iconic terms and tricks users into believing they’re engaging with something made in the image of a familiar series when they’re something completely different and dissimilar to one another.
Expected behavior
To restore trust, Roblox should enforce stricter oversight on item naming conventions and event keywords, particularly those referencing legacy or iconic series. Terms like “Valkyrie,” “Sparkle Time Fedora,” and “Dominus” should be reserved for items that genuinely reflect those styles in both model and theme.
Otherwise, these items should be changed to fit the names that they are being labelled, or they shouldn’t have them named after collectible series they have nothing to do with.
The fedora looks nothing like a sparkle time… maybe they could take the constructive criticism and redesign them the way they did with the “Treasure finder” bundle from the classic event
Roblox used to be creative and innovative when it came to event items, the massive decline in quality of event items is starting to become concerning. During events Roblox should distinguish itself from current items on the marketplace, but lo and behold these items look like something you would be able to easily get on the marketplace already. Very disappointing and misleading, despite them being fake the alleged “leaked” Valkyrie and fedora that was going around look legions better than the realistic slop Roblox keeps pushing. Roblox is officially out of touch with their communities wants.
I wonder if the issue here is that the names of the items were leaked beforehand, and this caused a portion of the community to sell their limited items for low early, hoping to make profit, without even knowing what this item would look like.
Similar to how Halloween & Christmas gifts used to be back in the day, the descriptions would often give hints as to what it might be, but you weren’t sure what you would get outside of leaks not made by Roblox.
I feel that claiming this as predatory marketing is probably not the right direction, regardless of how these items are named. “Specter Time” doesn’t necessarily refer to Sparkle Time, because we’ve had other items follow this naming convention, like the Happy Time top hats. There is also no indication that it would use the classic fedora mesh used by the Sparkle Time Fedora series, or Bluesteel Fedora to name some.
Personally, I find this disappointing, but this is why you shouldn’t hold expectations of leaks beforehand. Roblox doesn’t want you to know what these items look like before they release to the catalog. Don’t believe everything you read on Twitter/X pretty much.
This would be the case IF Valkyries on Roblox weren’t a series already, considering it is a series and has always been a SERIES there are certain expectations that are anticipated to be met. I would agree that the specter time naming being misleading is a bit far fetched but I in no way agree that the Valkyrie naming wasn’t misleading, this excuse doesn’t work because the Valkyrie series is very much that, a SERIES, this would be the equivalent of Lamborghini hyping up a new lambo (we all know the consistent lambo look) only for the new Lamborghini to look like a 2025 Honda civic. Once you overtly show consistency amongst a series, (helm shape, feathers, embedded buttons) people seek the same consistency across all the same named items. What Roblox has made is not a “Valkyrie” but a “helm” and they should treat it as such because otherwise yes it is misleading.
There’s definitely fault to take with trusting leaks wholeheartedly and setting high expectations (especially with how roblox handles limiteds and new items nowadays in general), but I do also think it comes off as extremely ignorant to the legacy of these notable fan favourite sets of items on the platform.
Even if these names were never leaked I think it is wrong to market these items in such a way to play on these classic tropes while not even resembling them in the slightest, “Specter Time Fedora” is very clearly and undeniably a play on the name of the sparkle time series and it is seemingly just spitting on that legacy to boost the sales of a completely uninteresting fedora by all other accounts.
I would agree, however, valkyrie helms haven’t really set a strict standard on how they should look for the last ~6 years, and this is sort of the overall trend we’ve seen with Roblox prioritizing new models & textures over the old way of retexturing assets with no / little change to the mesh. Here’s a few valkyrie helms that don’t use the classic mesh, released from 2014-2024, excluding this event’s new valkyrie helm.
My guess is this is possibly due to backlash during sales, especially around 2016-2018, where people would complain that retextures were “lazy” and Roblox wasn’t creative anymore, on top of them wanting to test out new technologies (like PBR) in recent years.
The general design for valks that has been mostly consistent is they usually have feathers, buttons, a front visor, and side accents. Think of items like Dominus Vespertilio that used wings for the first time instead of the traditional feathers.
I personally think that items like Dominus Formidulosus are pretty hard to look at, they’re clearly an inferior version of the classic style of items we’ve had previously, but I wouldn’t really say it’s a bug. If people don’t like the looks of this new valkyrie helm, then that’d reflect in less sales for the item.
In the end, I feel that the direction of this post might be misleading, and instead we should accept that Roblox is unfortunately losing touch with the community that items like these are usually oriented towards (usually traders, creators, anyone who can afford them).
I think design changes are fine when they’re done in moderation. It makes sense for Roblox to update old styles or try new looks, that keeps things fresh. But when they change an item so much that it barely looks like what it’s supposed to be, that’s where the problem starts.
If you call something a “Valkyrie,” people expect wings, a helmet shape, and that classic style. The same goes for “Sparkle Time Fedora”, it should at least look shiny and have the fedora shape. When Roblox completely redesigns these items and slaps old names on them, they stop being recognizable and just feel misleading.
Small changes are fine. Total overhauls that erase what made the item iconic aren’t.
Especially when these items are returning for the first time in a while, design changes shouldn’t be experimental, they should be familiar.
Every single Valkyrie you showed has the original Valkyrie concept, wings, button, helm. The Halloween spotlight Valkyrie doesn’t follow that concept at all. So I don’t find any of these relatable at all
This isn’t a bug. The names were simply chosen, whether you like them or not, and they’re actually relevant to the items. Based on the examples provided in the original post, the one called a fedora looks like a fedora, and the one called a valkyrie resembles the valkyrie items created by Roblox on the Marketplace.
This is more of a general suggestion rather than an issue to report, so it falls under Feature Requests, since there’s no specific case for staff to go off of, and even if there were, it’s unclear what it should be changed to, it’s just a general discussion.
