I’d like to address an ongoing issue with Roblox’s automated (AI) moderation system regarding asset uploads—specifically images—and how it affects developers.
The Problem
The current AI moderation system generates a high number of false positives. As developers, we frequently have innocent images flagged and deleted by automated checks for minor or nonexistent issues.
The main problem is how these AI errors impact our account status:
Escalating Penalties: Every time the AI misinterprets an image, a strike is applied to the developer’s account. Over time, these automated misfires stack up, leading to severe warnings (like being on the verge of a permanent ban) for things that were never actual violations.
Unreliable Appeals & Lack of Human Support: The appeal process feels completely inconsistent—it often feels like a 50/50 coinflip whether an appeal is accepted or rejected for the exact same type of content. On top of that, actual human support is virtually nonexistent, making it almost impossible to get proper assistance when an automated system makes a mistake.
No Safety Net: The asset gets deleted immediately anyway—so it never affects players—yet the developer incurs full account penalties for an automated error.
Suggested Solutions
Pre-Upload Flagging System: Instead of instantly issuing account strikes when the AI detects a potential violation, the system should simply block/reject the upload and show a warning message explaining what flagged the AI. This would allow developers to adjust the asset safely without risking their accounts.
Review & Account Protection for AI Flags: Automated flags should not automatically count towards severe account penalties or permanent bans without proper, consistent human review.
Developers shouldn’t risk losing their accounts and years of work over false positives caused by automated AI moderation filters.
every veteran developer on this platform shares your exact fear. you are completely justified in being terrified of the automated moderation system. the AI is aggressive, context-blind, and holds the power to wipe out years of hard work in seconds.
your suggestions (a pre-upload warning and mandatory human review for strikes) are logical and entirely reasonable. however, here is the harsh reality of why roblox will likely never implement them: deterrence.
if there were no penalty for uploading a flagged asset, bad actors would simply spam thousands of variations of inappropriate images until the AI eventually failed and let one through. roblox relies on the threat of account termination to force users to self-censor. they would rather sacrifice a few innocent developers to false positives than risk a PR disaster for investor relations.
since the system is fundamentally designed to protect the platform (not the developer), you have to protect yourself using the standard industry workaround: The Burner Alt Account.
never, ever upload untested images, decals, meshes, or audio on your main developer account.
Create an Alt: make a completely separate, alternative account specifically for asset uploads. Upload & Test: upload all your assets there. Transfer Access: if the asset passes moderation, grab the ID and use it in your main account’s studio, or upload it to a group where your main has access. Take the Hit: if the AI goes rogue and terminates the account for a false positive, you only lose a disposable burner alt. your main account, your games, and your devEx history remain perfectly safe.
until roblox fixes their AI, treat the moderation system like a minefield. don’t walk through it yourself; send a drone.
Roblox also takes down whole games and groups for assets/other false positives, so just “using an alt” is the most bandaid fix that works for 2 out of the 1000 issues
I agree with everything you said, more people need to talk about this, AI banned my only profitable game without any context on what was wrong with it, other than the ambiguous “Sexual Content” warning
Which asset caused this? not a single clue, it refuses to tell me!
The AI just scans the whole game and if it finds anything it suspects to be remotely suspicious (like an image of a gun icon used in your game), it immediately thinks you are an EVIL MALICIOUS INFLUENCE TO SOCIETY and permanently bans you and takes away your ability to appeal so that you are left completely powerless; and the only thing you got on your hands right now is an ominous warning accusing you of “CHILD ENDANGERMENT” or “SEXUAL CONTENT”!!!
As for human support? Roblox totally abandoned the use of humans in their support somewhere around 2025
Even if you somehow manage to get past their horrendous AI chatbot and make contact with a human being, your support ticket will just get buried in the abyss for a whole week before their automated chatbot finally responds with:
“WE’RE SORRY BUT WE ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.”
Honestly I genuinely think they should just shut down Roblox Support entirely, it’s only a waste of electricity and water at this point!
