i think pinned badges on your profile would be cool, finally gives a reason to pin your rarest ones.
I would really like to see that we would be able to reward players for getting badge with avatar item.
Thereās a lot that can go into it ranging from features that might cause the sight to be buggy, to newer versions that might make the download/file size of the app even bigger.
What the website adds, the desktop and mobile apps will have to add as well. Taking that into account, itāll cost more money, they have to add it to the apps and thatās a totally different process as well.
(I uploaded some apps to the google play store, etc. Compared to that platform, different platforms have different requirements.)
Also different countries have different internet speeds as well. When I was in the military I was stationed in Guam, and their advertised internet speed is 15mbps. Many times it reaches 300kbps. I called and asked about it and they said that the limit of 15mbps was what they deemed to be the number best to perform office tasks such as accessing emails, performing work, etc.
Everything else was just slow. I remember trying to download GTA V once and it took me 99+ hours on my laptop. I had an ethernet connection too.
So with that being said:
Roblox definitely takes into account the experience, and some locations in the world might take 30-1hr+ to download on regular internet speeds, even mobile data if someone doesnāt have internet access.
I get why itās surprising but then a lot happens behind the scenes that makes much more sense. Otherwise if we donāt think about things like that, it seems like the most obvious to ask, āwhy donāt you add this??ā
Wow, I was not expecting this much attention! Hopefully this gets addedā¦!
Thank you Ryu - this is a wealth of insight and feedback!
Many of the ideas you mentioned are things that weāve been thinking through as well.
Thank you again - if anything else comes to mind, please feel free to share
It would be cool to be able to set badges to certain categories maybe (not sure how well this would work tho). Maybe on your games it could also categorize each badge into their own section (maybe it can also have a percentage feature) in the badge list.
What I personally want out of Roblox, which badges can help achieve - is something similar to the old metaverse/connected world idea.
My favorite skin in the game Arsenal is the Pizza Boy, which Iām pretty sure you obtain by cooking pizzas in Work at a Pizza Place, which gives you a badge.
Imagine something like this: you open the badge tab on Jailbreak. You see a list of: āGet X badge on Y game to unlock Z reward in Jailbreakā. Then another list: āGet X badge on Jailbreak to unlock Z reward(s) in Y game(s)ā. An interconnected world of Roblox.
Also, remember how buying catalog gears let you use them in games, but the implementation was really basic? What if games could implement, in their own way, how each supported gear would work? And the gear page showed what games support it. That would be a way other than badges to achieve interconnectedness.
This is essentially use of badges as a form of cross-game flag right?
What if there was a service for sharing of flags between games that also has permissions. Games can choose to share a flag specifically with a partnering game, or a flag to be fully public so any other game can reference it.
This would be invisible to the player and wouldnāt need to clutter up their badges showcase space then
Thoughts?
Here is a very crude mockup of what I mean; how my idea would look in the badges tab.
Ideally the player could tab between seeing āGame badgesā, āUnlock rewards in other gamesā, and āUnlock rewards in Jailbreakā.
I do like that any game can access āif player has X badgeā within their code; how it works right now.
But for this ācross-game badge showcase UIā that Iām proposing, a āfully public flagā might be chaos. If you opened your badge to the public, a million Tung Tung Brainrot bots would mark their game as using your badges, thus advertising their junk on your game. I think it should be an agreed-upon partnership.
As for visually cluttering up the gameās badges showcase, I think the dev having access to reorder badges would be very helpful. Maybe the player/dev could choose how big or small the badge layout looks (such as, card or compact).
(Oh, and inappropriate games will try to use this feature. So unlock it behind HEP or whatever you do.)
Yeah, I agree with this. Having it require an actual partnership makes way more sense than letting any game just use another gameās badges, especially since I could see it getting abused pretty quickly.
