Monetised Educational Games - Good or Bad?

I am thinking about making a few educational games, but I am unsure as to whether or not adding gamepasses would breach some moral and/or ethical codes.

The games would mainly consist of interactive school-like lessons, where the player can work with others, be it their friends or random players, to complete a set of questions.

It would cover as many subjects as possible, such as Maths, Science, Languages and Music to name a few.

The general idea of the games is to get kids more involved in things that they would usually find boring. For example, homework is one of least appealing things to do as a child, but having it on a platform such as Roblox would make it that much more appealing, especially when you get to do it with your friends.

I would ideally make it as entertaining as possible, to keep younger audiences enthralled, but this would require things like pets, trails, particles. However, when these add-ons come into play, it is always nice to add extra ‘Robux only’ items for players to have exclusives, and therein lies my concern.

The only solution I can think of is to, obviously, not include exclusive items, but I feel like this takes away from what is now becoming a common theme on Roblox games with add-ons.

Would adding Robux items to a game that is aimed for younger audiences and mainly education-based be an issue, would it make me look like a money-grabber, or even worse, like I was exploiting my power as the Developer?

Please give me feedback, it would be greatly appreciated.

I think there should be no issue with monetization, as long as it isn’t one of the following.

  1. Giving an unfair advantage. (Though I don’t know how this would work in an educational game.)
  2. I’ll assume that this game is directed towards younger children, so I would make special Robux items not very bright or flashy, which could lead to children being “Hypnotized” into buying the gamepasses.

Developers should be able to make some profit off their games, so there’s nothing inherently wrong with Robux items, it’s how they’re applied that’s the issue.

Hope this helps :slightly_smiling_face:.
