More Creators Can Now Use Rewarded Video Ads

[Update] August 26, 2025

Hi Creators,

We are excited to share that we are expanding the eligibility for creators to integrate our Rewarded Video ad format, providing another way to earn and drive additional engagement for users within games. Rewarded Video placements load a full-screen, horizontal, 6 - 30 second video ad, when a user chooses to watch it in return for a reward that you select, such as an extra life or power up.

Over the last few months, we have been testing with a handful of creators in closed beta. Today, creator experiences that meet our publisher eligibility criteria, have an average of 100K+ DAU over the past 28 days, with minimal or mild content maturity, and are in good standing with Roblox will see the option to add Rewarded Video into their experiences via self-service.

In the coming months, we plan to expand access to all creators who meet our Advertising Standards and Community Standards, regardless of maturity rating. So even if you can’t add Rewarded Video today, it’s a great time to start thinking about how you might integrate it into your experience.

In this post, we’ll share how to implement Rewarded Ads, and how to think about earnings from the product.

Rewarded Video ads: one of the most popular ad formats in gaming

Rewarded Video ads benefit creators, users, and advertisers.

  • Creators have another way to earn, and a new mechanism to drive engagement within experiences. We let you decide how you integrate it into your creation.
  • Users have choice and control over whether they engage, and now have the ability to choose watching an ad as an alternative to spending Robux to get in-experience benefits. In a Roblox study conducted with Latitude1, 87% of users surveyed had a favorable opinion of the Rewarded Video ad format.
  • Advertisers get high-performance outcomes, as measured by completion rate and viewability for their target audience. Expected completion rates for Rewarded Video in the industry are usually expected to be 85+%.

How to implement Rewarded Video ads

To add Rewarded Video ads, you can use the Rewarded Video Ads API. Eligible creators will automatically see the Rewarded Video option in the Game Settings menu within Roblox Studio. With the API, you choose when, where, and Rewarded Video will appear in your game, as well as how frequently it will appear.

Your implementation must follow certain guidelines to ensure it complies with our requirements for ads monetization and is disclosed appropriately according to regulations. All implementations are subject to review and violations may result in revoked payouts, suspension of payouts, and/or removal of publisher eligibility to run advertising or moderation.

Only users aged 13 and older will be eligible to see Rewarded Video ads even if a prompt is shown. Using the GetAdAvailabilityNowAsync API will only return an ad for eligible users and ensure that users under the age of 13 do not see the option to engage with rewards.

How to earn and optimize

Once implemented, ads will start being filled programmatically through a range of programmatic partners, or through campaigns set up by our direct sales efforts. Your earnings will be a result of EPM (earnings per 1000 impressions) multiplied by the total number of impressions.

EPMs should continue to increase as we grow overall demand and EPMs through our expanding programmatic business. Experiences with higher completion rates (90%+) or with a Minimal content maturity rating are likely to see higher EPMs due to higher advertiser demand for that type of inventory.

How often users see Rewarded Ads within your experience is under your control, and can be optimized to improve earnings. For example, putting a reward at high-traffic points in a game, or increasing reward value are ways to increase the number of users who engage with your experience, increasing earning potential. In our beta, we found that users who engaged with Rewarded Video also spent more Robux within experiences. This demonstrates that offering a Rewarded Video option is complementary to your monetization options within experience, and can help increase overall engagement and earnings.

Once live, you will be able to view reporting on performance and earnings within Creator Hub. You can use this to take action and optimize key factors to maximize your own supply and performance, increasing your total earnings. Our best practices are designed to help you find the right reward type, reward value, and placement where your ad is most likely to perform.

What type of ads will show up

Ads are not specific to your experience, and will be running across the many experiences with Rewarded Video implemented on the platform. Over time, we want to provide creators with more insights and control into what types of ads can run within your experiences, as well as advertiser-level reporting to see who is running within your experience.

Every ad is reviewed for compliance with our Advertising Standards prior to running on the platform.

What’s next

  • Upcoming webinar: Want to learn more about how to integrate Rewarded Video into your experiences? Join our webinar in August to learn best practices, and ask questions directly to our product team. Whether you are eligible today, or in the coming months, it will be a great opportunity to learn about this new capability.
  • Expanding to more creators: In the coming months, we plan to expand to all creators who meet our Publisher Eligibility criteria, Advertising Standards, and Community Standards.
  • More reporting: We will be adding more detail to our publisher reporting, such as insights into placement, geography, users, and more.
  • More control and functionality: We will start to give you more control over the types of ads that you serve within your experiences.
  • Billboard ads opening up to programmatic demand: We will be launching our Billboard Video and Image (formerly called “Immersive Video and Image”) formats via programmatic channels, creating more demand for these formats as well as Rewarded Video.

FAQs

What type of earnings should I expect from Rewarded Video?

  • In the first few months we expect Rewarded Video to make up to 3% of your earnings as we scale. Long term, our goal is to enable most creators to grow their revenue by 5 - 10% using Roblox Ads products (Rewarded Video, Billboards) in the mid to long run (starting later this year).

You can increase earnings by increasing the impression volume within your experience (i.e., the number of users that engage with your rewarded ads). Adopting at this time provides you with a great opportunity to test and learn and understand the downstream impact of Rewarded Video on your experience as earnings grow.

Earnings will increase in the coming months as we increase EPMs by adding more functionality to the video units valued by ad buyers, and increasing the number of ad buyers for video through direct sales and demand partnerships.

Why are you limiting eligibility to an average of 100K DAU with certain content maturity ratings at this time?

  • We are managing the growth of supply and demand evenly to create a strong marketplace for Rewarded Video in the first few quarters, which should enable all creators to earn more in the future. Onboarding high traffic creators gives us the fastest path to enabling brands to buy at scale as we build the product.

As we scale, there should be more competition for inventory, enabling us to open up to all eligible creators to start earning.

What devices is Rewarded Video available on?

  • Currently, Rewarded Video is available on iOS and Android devices, and will roll out on PC Desktop devices in the coming weeks. We aim to add others, such as Fire devices and console in the coming months. (Updated on July 25, 2025)

I meet all eligibility criteria but don’t see the Rewarded Video option within Game Settings in Roblox Studio?

  • We refresh the list of eligible experiences every Monday. If you still do not see the option after a week, please reach out to our team.

I’d like to run Rewarded Video ads in a test experience prior to running live. What should I do?

  • If you have an ad-eligible experience, you can fill out this form to let us know the details of your test associated test universe, and we will provide access to ad development and test demand for that experience.

This will not be monetized, but otherwise identical to the normal ads experience.

What’s the difference between Video & Image Billboards and Rewarded Video?

  • Video and Image Billboards are native ‘billboard’ style placements within your experiences that provide brands with high reach. These are ‘3D’ type ads.

Rewarded Video placements load a full-screen, 2D video ad when a user chooses to watch it in exchange for a reward. This provides brands with high-completion rate and viewability.

We are working on bringing Video and Image Billboards to our Google partnership in the coming months, which should also bring more programmatic demand to the format, increasing earning potential.

Will the ads adhere to a user’s sound settings?

  • Yes, a user’s sound settings will be respected. If a user has the sound off either on their phone or in the game settings, the ad will play with the sound off.

Only 100k DAU+ experinces can use reward ads? This is pretty disappointing i would have loved to add video ads to my roleplay experiences that would let people watch ads to nuke the other players. Hopefully its expanded to all experiences soon.

Atleast I can use this as a replacement for premium payouts

Still waiting for creator controlled price floors, higher CPMs on static and video billboard ads (still 10x below industry average) as well as much higher CPMs on these rewarded ads (5-6x below industry average) & advertiser control panel so we can know and choose which brands are allowed to be in our games…

Policy-API-less?

Was the YouTube video recorded prior the release of New Explorer?

I really hope that develops do not start making games where you have to watch an ad like every few minutes like mobile games…

I would be terrified if that was the case

People already did this when roblox first released in-experince ads a long time ago and then roblox removed the ad system entirely for like 5 years before bringing it back.

So your saying that you can still make this kind of behavior?
(Or is it locked behind something)

Will these be expanded to Moderate and Restricted Maturity Labelled games in the future? Or will these forever be locked to Minimal and Mild.

Also, will these be unlocked for games that feature “free-form user creation” in the future as well?

I saw the FAQ below but I’m still not sure if this means you’ll open it to more maturity labels, or just to more games with Minimal/Mild.

The 100k+ DAU requirement immediately excludes a lot of things that aren’t absolute cashgrab slopfest from partaking in it
I’m also concerned about performance, having even more things actively taking their own overexaggerated chunks of frametimes/memory without any failsafes could result in issues

I’ve seen plenty of obbies with giant billboard ads on every stage but i don’t think any of them force you to watch ads. It might be possible with the new system which might be why its currently locked to experiences with 100k DAU.

if your phone sounds are off you dont even hear sounds

the billboard ads are also loked to that

You’re expecting developers to increase their revenue by ONLY 5-10%??

Mobile games, youtube videos, etc…, all make thousands in revenue from ads, and Roblox will only be paying developers 5-10% extra? I was expecting this to be a huge revenue source for developers just like all other advertising platforms outside of roblox

5-10% on top of what is already a measly pittance for most average roblox games, this is not enough incentive to code/develop into the game and annoy our players

Letting people watch ads in a roleplay-focused game to nuke everyone else in their server is . . really bad.

I misread this at first and thought you meant pay robux to force everyone to watch ads, although that would be funnier

It shouldn’t have the unique visitor criterion by me, some games struggle to generate revenue, and that doesn’t help us. Especially when we can give the player the opportunity to watching an advertisement in order to temporarily obtain something

It would be cool to be able to remove this requirement.

Ads is here! Thank you Roblox!

I can’t wait to join “super mega hardcore obby” and get hit with 5 ads

this is the most incorrect developer mindset I’ve seen in a while
