My Roblox username was stolen

Hi.
I believe this is the 3rd or 4th report I’ve made on the developer forum about Roblox Support related issues, as there isn’t really a formal department that you can submit reports like this to on the website - however this situation is a little unusual.
My Roblox username, 886, was stolen on July 6, 2026 by an unknown malicious individual who had ‘reported’ it somewhere to get it removed from the website to take it for themselves.
This situation is very unusual, as I had not received an email or any type of notification of this action that had been taken upon my account.
I had formally appealed this to Roblox Support, which had confirmed that there is no formal record of this action taking place on the Roblox Support department systems. They had responded to the appeal in context of a formal appeal that I had already successfully appealed via the Developer Forum that can be seen in the following posts:

Mass false moderation due to manipulating of support resources.

In this most recent case, mine and many other users were completely removed from our profiles and the website in near entirety, with the intention of unreasonably jealous users taking our usernames for themselves. This is FAR from the first time that this has happened on the platform.

The user who took my username: https://www.roblox.com/users/11241565402/profile
Note that this user had instantly deactivated their account after stealing the username to ‘protect’ it.

(They recently updated the profile)

My account (the original): UN_8879563627 - Roblox

Expected behavior

Generally speaking, doing this should just be impossible.

People are really doing this for virtual text on an account?

This is unfortunately the case

Roblox moderated your username and this isn’t anything new, 88 and have historical meanings relating to a certain dictator. This wasn’t a mistake on roblox’s part.

No they didn’t, and yes it was. 88 was unfiltered recently which is how I was able to get the username in the first place - as I said before Roblox Support said there was no record of this action and I had not received any notification of it, which they are obligated to do in official actions against violation

Also the ‘meaning’ of the number is completely obsolete now because said events happened over a hundred years ago, so unless I’m obviously violating terms of service by referencing the outdated beliefs of said dictator my username isn’t in violation of anything.

It is true that 88 was unfiltered, however that doesn’t change the meaning of it. And that is a history lesson of how things repeat, just because it is 100 years ago (which it is not) does not make anything less serious than it was. It still affects how people use it in today’s time. This is a very insensitive comment. Additionally there are many propagators of the ideology to this day that still use the number in an offensive way.

My comment was in no way insensitive. As I’ve said, there’s nothing wrong with the handle unless I’m obviously violating terms of service by referencing the very outdated beliefs (which i imagine is the very reason it was unfiltered in the first place) that one very bad guy had over a hundred years ago, and secondly as I’ve said, I have already successfully appealed actions in this nature against my account twice

I’ve made my self clear and would like to avoid this topic in the future of this report post, thank you

I don’t think it’s accurate to say the meaning is “obsolete” just because a long time has passed (it wasn’t over a hundred years ago either if I must say). Symbols and numbers can retain meaning for decades, especially when they’re still actively used by extremist groups today. The passage of time doesn’t automatically remove that association.

The fact that something was temporarily unfiltered also doesn’t necessarily mean Roblox determined it was appropriate in every context, it may simply mean the filter changed or wasn’t catching it at the time.

Also, could you not just make a support ticket then? I don’t believe dev forum is the right place to make this kind of request.

With all do respect did you even read the post? Also I think it’s fair to assume that I know what I’m talking about considering it’s my account and I’ve successfully delt with issues of this nature in the past - also there’s no such thing as ‘temporarily unfiltered’

You need to consider the fact that it’s only offensive in the offensive context, otherwise it’s literally just a number. Also the many other cases of this happening on the exact day prior or the few that took place only 5 days before (i imagine as a test, like @318 on July 1st or h_h on June 28) means that these incidents are related in some way other than this context of moderation.

I and many others have found that bizarre issues like this are best reported on the Developer Forums as there isn’t a formal department that reports like these can be sent to, and these reports on the forums are resolved accordingly by outstanding staff as you can see in the posts I had provided as an example in this post. Simply put, I know what I’m doing

This is an extremely destructive vulnerability on Roblox’s end, I hope this is fixed soon. This is extremely unprofessional of Roblox to allow people to steal other’s usernames, especially if the name doesn’t even violate the Terms of Service. This is horrible, and I wish you the best in recovering your username. I’m sorry this happened to you.

I did read your post. My point is that the information you’ve provided doesn’t necessarily support the conclusion that someone exploited Support specifically to steal your username.

The fact that Support couldn’t find a record is certainly unusual if everything happened the way you described, but that alone doesn’t prove there was malicious manipulation of their systems. There could be other explanations that only Roblox would have visibility into.

Regarding “temporarily unfiltered,” I was referring to the fact that filters and moderation policies can change over time. Something being obtainable at one point doesn’t guarantee Roblox intends for it to remain valid indefinitely.

As for the number itself, I still disagree that it’s “only offensive in the offensive context.” Certain numbers and symbols retain widely recognized associations because they’re still actively used by extremist groups today, regardless of an individual user’s intent. Whether Roblox should moderate them is a separate discussion, but those associations haven’t become obsolete.

If this really is a broader issue affecting multiple users, then hopefully Roblox investigates it. I just don’t think it’s possible to conclude from the information available that this was definitely a targeted exploit to steal your username.
