Welcome to the Narrow Gauge Hills official guide for the new Summerset Tramlines update!!!
This guide is provided to help new and veteran players navigate the new expansion to the familiar Summerset Northern Railroad. We will be discussing the following:
-
The new rolling stock that is a part of this expansion.
-
The ins and outs of the new line including infrastructure and route.
-
The new technology that is being introduced with this update.
Lets begin!!!
Overview
The new expansion is that of a part dedicated part co-shared tramline that directly connects Capton Springs with Caledonia. This expansion includes new trackage that takes you down Main Street Capton and ends at the Caledonia station. Part of the new route follows the rural highway that connects Capton Springs to Geppville.
Rolling Stock
The expansion comes with a new locomotive and the return of a fan favorite. This also introduces a new coach for players to use and to come will be some dedicated MOW (equipment cars and such) rolling stock as well.
The NG-815
Making its debut as a player locomotive is the Motive Works Narrow Gauge Model 815, this little shunter is a former workhorse of the administrative fleet rebuilt to player specifications. This locomotive is also the newest engine canonically to the public. Built-in 2021 it is the most modern locomotive on the SNR public roster.
SNR 4 Returns!!
A fan favorite due to its resemblance to a certain locomotive from a childhood TV series, SNR 4 is one of the classic locomotives of Narrow Gauge Hills. Wonderfully restored it has passed all safety checks and is ready for service once again! You will be able to take this wonderful little steamer down the streets of Capton Springs with great stride pulling passengers and making memories.
The New Tram Carriage
Originally SNR 4 had a two-axel passenger carriage that matched the locomotive’s style, however with the refresh we are introducing a new carriage pairing for the locomotive. This new carriage is longer and holds more people, it is also more stable than its predecessor.
New Signal Type
Veterans of this game will remember the days of the semaphore signals that were used to protect the blocks of the game’s mainline. With this update we are bringing semaphores back, along the new trackage you will find the new signals. Configured to the SNR signal protocol of Green for clear, Red for occupied, and Amber for danger these new signals will surely bring a refreshing look to the safety infrastructure on the game.
Introduction to DDS 5 and the new couplers
Part of the update we are formally introducing Motive Work’s Dynamic Drive System Version 5 to the game. This drive system will gradually replace the older DDS 2 system used on all the mainline rolling stock and will be the standard for any future rolling stock going forward. The new drive platform behaves differently than what veteran players of the game will be used to. The automatic shift from forward to reverse is done away and now needs to be toggled using the “T” key on your keyboard. Players playing on consoles or mobile devices also have the ability to shift directions by clicking the HUD button. This new system benefits players with better performance for game stability as well as baked-in sound effects and more.

Also new to the game going forward is our new style of couplers, shown on the NG-815 these new couplers are more detailed and are improved functionally as well.
The new couplers will have both a Janney-style knuckle coupler and a Link and Pin style, changes to this design include a visual air hose that connects with the adjoining piece of stock as well as functional changes such as the now “One Click” disconnect feature where you only have to click one coupler to separate the consist. You should expect to see these new couplers gradually replacing existing ones on all rolling stock going forward.
Note
It is important to mention that the new tramline is only accessible to certain locomotives and rolling stock, be aware that if you try bringing say the NG-412 down the line you will be sorely disappointed.
With that, we hope you enjoy the new update as we work on updating the game’s systems and bringing Narrow Gauge Hills into a new era! We have so much planned for this game so stay tuned for more. As always we will love to hear your feedback and ideas for what we can do.
