[NEED FEEDBACK] ICST (Improvised Custom Shading Technology) | Lighting System

DISCLAIMER

THE CURRENT VERSION YOU ARE LOOKING AT BELOW IS OUTDATED, THE FEATURES IN THE OLD GAME WILL BE SEPERATED INTO NEW GAMES AND NEW VERSIONS OF THEM WILL BE POSTED IN THE REPLIES

Summary

So I’ve been working on a “Lighting” System for a while now, currently I have this and I am not sure of what I can add extra.

Just a reminder that this is very unpolished at the moment and will have different rooms and stuff, I am currently very busy with exams and have to translate a game. As soon as those are finished I will continue working on this system more often.

Current Additions:

  • Reflections

  • Colored Shadows

  • Shaded Particles

  • Better Smoke

Planned Additions:

  • Particle Shadows

  • Improved Reflections (Mesh Support, Shadows with Reflections and etc)

  • Better Skies (Feedback Needed)

  • Better Smoke

  • Has potential, keep working.
  • Can be better, not sure.
  • Probably won’t look good.
  • Stop working on it, has no potential.

Should I seperate each of these features into different games and not pile them up in one? (If you aren’t sure you can leave this blank.)

It looks good, keep it up :+1: I enjoy the mirror - it isn’t too buggy, and seems to work as intended.

Is there anything that you wish to be added?

The mirror is currently using a camera to render the reflection so it doesn’t really “reflect” like a mirror, but its close enough.

Depth is a little bit off because of this strategy, but it appears to overall work well, so kudos.

Yep, going to try to fix it sooner or later. It was a pain scripting the mirror so I don’t even want to look at the code because it makes me sick…

Going to have to bump this because I legit need feedback, if you voted it would be nice to reply.

I really like these mirrors, keep working on it!
You could make a minigame in that you are in an empty room, but there are invisible blocks, which you can only see in the mirror (Just an idea that came to my head lol)
Maybe you could even make closets with these mirrors!:

Or make a hand mirror (which would look very good on first person) to look at yourself!

You could try doing that if you want, i think it would be an great idea, anyways good luck! :grinning:

I love your ideas, but these aren’t currently made for a project/game. I am talking about features for the lighting technology. And if you read the full post you could see that there’s more to this. If you have feedback related to my topic it would be nice to post it here.

are the mirrors just normal viewportframes and the particles just normal particles with light emission? i’m confused on what the difference is lol

Yes. I suck at scripting.

If you played the game you can see there’s a light out of the ground, it is to show shadows on the smoke.

Is that in a viewport frame?, because if so :chefs kiss: :sparkles: amazing :sparkles:, even if it isn’t in a viewport, this is still very impressive, definitely keep up the good work :+1:

Mhm, would be nice giving feedback to the other features and ideas in the topic as well. Thank you for the compliments.

That was my exact inspiration. ArtBlox is one of my favorite developers (?) on this platform.

Your graphics might be low, try to set it near 9.

That’s actually a good idea, a simpler way to do it is to use 0.02 transparency glass, and make parts that are 0.99 transparent.

Overall I really like it well done.

I just want to point out that the mirror must be rendered or something. It’s not a true reflection.
