Need Help Designing A Town Group Game

So, recently I’m helping the owner of a group make a town game. I’m the only scripter and basically its up to me to design large portions of the game.

Now, for those that don’t know. A town group game is basically a town roleplay, like bloxburg, but they feature things like player owned businesses, and political parties (The politics is more of a backdrop to the whole thing, and isn’t really given much weight). The genre is usually for older audiences who tend to want a more social experience, If you need an example of what is considered a successful town group game, here’s the link to one (I’m not affiliated with this group, their game just so happens to be the only one in this genre that is currently active that I know of):

https://www.roblox.com/games/5032672441/Capital-District-San-Bortolome?refPageId=3a799267-7813-41e3-88b7-68c2ea38653a

These games tend to only attract a niche audience, but I’m looking to change things up and try to appeal to a wider audience. Currently I have planned out a system where players can buy, sell, and craft goods. But besides that, I’m out of ideas.

I’d love to hear what you guys would want to see in a game like this. If you have further questions feel free to ask :grinning:

Add departments such as police, fire, medical, DOT, etc. It would increase that social aspect of the game.

Thanks, Yes, those are good ideas. But I was more looking for help with new game mechanics. Particularly mechanics that could help draw in a wider audience.

So like the political mechanics in the game? The business owning mechanic?

Players like control and players want the thing to actually happen not just “waves”. Since you are the scripter make things in RP games like “pins” a real thing. Or Make it for NLR not just to obey something but you are like invisible or muted to the people within a 50 stud radius of where you died. People also want to sell things and buy things. Make it so people can have their own ‘economy’ but don’t add stealing from player owned businesses (that is how you get dislikes). Also don’t expect players to follow a 50 page long set of rules PROGRAM them in (as many as you can) to reduce the list down to like 5. Don’t do PBans and also don’t sell all guns for robux. You can sell an advanced pack but maybe give players a taste. Or offer a free trial idk.

I’ve kind of noticed that simulators tend to get a lot of return players because they want to be at the top. Maybe you could add something similar to a class structure determined by their wealth?

Yeah, that’s an interesting idea. Thanks

Yes, but if you have any other ideas that would be great too

What do you mean by a “pin”? and what do you mean by a “wave”?

Don’t think it is. Typically games in the genre are built for PCs only

Alright, you mean city genre games? But, that does not include welcome to bloxburg because it’s really well playable on mobile devices.

Yeah, the only real similarity between this genre and bloxburg is the emphasis on rp.

Are you going to include a housing system? Make it like bloxburg, ability to personalize, and build your own house. Include the bills and everything.

Also for jobs that people aren’t in, but are essential in the city, make npcs for them, and make npc cars to make the city feel more alive.

Make a FRP (Failure to Roleplay) system. You don’t want people FRPing all the time in your game, kinda like what @omgcchheeessee said, ruining the whole experience.

Vehicles, make cars, boats (If you have waterways), and airplanes.

Need any other ideas? Hope this helped.

i mean when like a cop says “pins” to rp or someone types “waves” to another player. ie roleplay things

I play game for few minutes and I recommend:

  • Add Play Button Ui
  • Add More Buildings
  • Optimalize game for hight graphics

Okay so if you want game be more playable this is my tips:

  • You have to make the game more dynamic. The game must have something that will show its character
  • Make a cool spawn place
  • Maybe change the terrain color too look more dynamic

About game mechanic:

  • You should make some missions to complete
  • Maybe make a tutorial

This is only my few advice so you don’t must change all thing I said.

Best Regards,
