Pretty soon here, I am going to start building a map for my zombie survival game. Issue is, I have no clue as to what I should make for the map, what locations I should make, the names ofthe locations, and where the bosses will be. Should I gowith a similar layout to to the aftermath map, or should I make an original one?
Zombie Survival games are usually focused on cities that are just destroyed. So you could just make a city. Office buildings, construction sites, neighborhoods, etc.
I do think original ideas are better, it also gives your game an image where you take one look at a picture of one of the maps and instantly think βOh yeah, thatβs that game Aftermath.β Which is exactly what you want. So I do recommend doing something unique and original, but also feels comfortable for the style of game, a small abandoned town/city is fairly common but comfortable, and making a beach map would be fairly unique but it might feel strange in the players eyes because zombie games are usually associated with abandoned cities. Of course this is my personal opinion, and what I personally have though of with my own maps, it mainly just depends on what your ideas are.
You could make it nuclear winter since its called Aftermath maybe make hazards like glass shards and stuff I honestly do not know not a fan of zombie survival games
