We just launched some visual and functional improvements to the Creator Store asset search and browsing.
The main change with this update is the addition of new “Gameplay” and “Visual Effects” categories to start breaking apart the old “Models” catch-all category which included anything from 3D models to gameplay scripts, particle effects, and skyboxes. Our goal with this update is to split up “Model” assets into more intuitive categories that will help you find the right content faster.
We also reworked the search bar so you can search within specific subcategories and easily search within other categories like Audio or Plugins no matter where you are on Store.
There are even more updates already in the works to improve your Creator Store experience. For future updates we plan on adding:
Plugin subcategories: For a long time, we’ve only had support for one manually curated list of popular Plugins. As we improve our classification model we want to extend it to Plugins as well to improve browsing and discovery based on the type of tooling or functionality you’re looking for. Keep an eye out for this launching soon!
Asset classification feedback: We want to add a way in the Store UI to report when you notice something in the wrong place. For this stage, we expect there to still be some misclassifications so try to keep your feedback focused more on the overall browsing experience vs calling out individual assets that end up in weird places. If you notice a really weird, unexpected trend (eg a bunch of furniture keeps showing up in Vehicles), definitely flag that!
General search and browsing improvements: We are also thinking about adding more subcategories, tags, and other browsing improvements to Store next year. Ideally, you’ll be able to search/filter something like “Sci-Fi” and see all relevant assets across multiple categories and asset types in one view. If you have any feature requests on a wishlist somewhere feel free to drop them in the replies!
Automatic sandboxing on assets with scripts: In addition to stemming spam through reuploads, we are introducing a new safety feature in the coming weeks that will automatically sandbox assets from Store to give you control what capabilities an asset can access when inserted in your experience. This has been a massive effort in order to combat bad actors who attempt to hide malicious behavior inside model scripts.
We’d love to hear your feedback and feature requests to improve buying, selling, and acquiring assets from the Store!
Make it so we can play audios in the Asset Manager, i have uploaded lots of sfx over the years and its hard to manage my audios or find them again later.
Will there be any efforts to fix the performance of the modern Creator Store? Ever since it replaced the legacy Library page (roblox.com/develop/library), and especially since various changes over the last couple of years, it has increasingly become poor for performance in a browser compared to the old page.
the new layout is very good, but in my opinion the close button being replaced with a back button and moved to the other side and made smaller is a bit confusing
It’s more so if, say, I’m in Roblox Player (or Studio), and I’m trying to tab out to the browser to view the Creator Store and I need to search for something, it seems to take quite a long time for the controls to update and to then process my input (e.g. the searchbox). I’m not really able to give a direct metric comparison given that the old Library was removed quite some time ago, but it’s probably more apparent on lower-end hardware.
I’ll also add here that since Studio started using the webview interface for the Creator Store, it became a lot slower to interact with. Not overly sure why it was migrated away from the Lua-centered implementation it was using before, particularly given the shift towards increased Lua integration in the wider Studio UI.
Will these search improvements eventually extend to the catalog because I am still curious whether we will get advanced search parameters such as time range options that don’t just apply to the toolbox.
I am also wondering if redirects will be fixed as /catalog/ used to redirect to /library/ or /games/ and vice versa but this no longer seems to be the case and outdated parts of the websitestill rely on this format even though they never got updated to redirect or use the correct format and they give me 404 errors
At the moment, the Inventory (4 boxes icon) and Creations (light bulb icon) kind of behave the same, in the sense that they both show owned and created items, with the exception that Creation has more granular filtering options.
At the same time, they both kind of behave differently. For example, when viewing “My Plugins” in the Inventory tab, it shows all the plugins that I purchased from the Toolbox, whereas the “Plugins” from Creations only show my personal creations.
At this point, things are a little bit redundant because Creations is esentially just the Asset Manager.
Here is my suggestion: We need to somehow remove the redundant options by either merging Inventory and Creations into 1 whole thing, but the problem with that is, it esentially just becomes another tab group that behaves like your Asset Manager. So then, in my opinion, a good, viable solution to this is to completely get rid of Inventory and Creations from the Toolbox and keep only Creator Store and Recents. Sure, it might be a little annoying to have both Toolbox and Asset Manager open to view your items but at least it gets rid of the clutter.
Plus, I rarely ever find myself in the Creations section from the Toolbox. Not going to lie, I almost never clicked on it my 4-5 years of development on Roblox. I have always used the Asset Manager to view my items
