New Leaderboard UI (UI Interaction, Icons Being Cut Off, and Other Issues)

UI Interaction

The new leaderboard CoreGui in-game has rolled out to me, and I’ve noticed a couple issues with it. I’ll start with the UI interaction. When a user’s information card is open on the leaderboard’s UI, mouse actions such as right clicking to move the camera, or simply trying to click on another UI element (such as the backpack), the input is taken by the information card. I’m assuming that the CoreGui’s using an invisible fullscreen button to capture input from the mouse to determine if it should hide the information card. This is effective, but it impedes on gameplay unlike the previous leaderboard UI.

Icons Being Cut Off

As you can see, the icons (the block icon in this case), which are aligned to the right of the text, are completely cut off due to the user’s username being too long. To mitigate this, I believe that the icons should be placed on the left as they were previously, or simply increase the width of the leaderboard UI.

Long Usernames

If the user’s username is long enough, even the username gets cut off instead of being truncated like it was with the previous leaderboard UI. This can be mitigated by truncating the usernames to indicate further length, or increasing the width of the leaderboard UI.

Lack of Animations

This is a more less severe one as it’s mainly intended for polishing UI interfaces, though I’ll still mention it as this is lacking from the previous leaderboard UI that we had before this one. For consistency with the older and newer leaderboard UI, I believe that animations should be included.

Outdated Wording

As stated by another DevForum user in this post (which also has some more bugs that I’ll leave to that post instead of this one), the new leaderboard UI is using outdated wording. When viewing a user’s information card, there’s a button named “Connection Request”. Connections have been renamed back to Friends around four months ago. I’m assuming this is a left over piece of text from when connections were still a thing that never got changed back to “Friend Request”.

Thanks for the report! We’ve filed this with the team working on the new leaderboards UI

Hey, I wanted to mention some other issues as well.

  1. The leaderboard does not scale with less players like the old one, meaning it covers your screen significantly even if you are in a small game.
  2. The leaderboard, somehow, covers performance statistics.
  3. The leaderboard can scroll down further than the amount of players there actually are, is this based on max players or is it arbritrary?
  4. The leaderboard doesnt align with the “player listed height”, meaning it has a cutoff with the default size, potentially making it resizable could also be nice, though that’s optional.
  5. it doesn’t seem to match with the Roblox icon on the top left? In the images they’ve shown you can see that the roblox one i darker while the leaderboard ui is more greyish.

I’m hoping the new UI fixes the terrible performance drop when pressing Tab to show/hide the Leaderboard

Too little padding, menu itself is too small, no proper automatic sizing system, someone tell the engineer that implemented this that Foundation UI framework has flowing menus.

Also wanted to mention that while roblox plus is displayed, badges arent shown on the leaderboard either (verified check mark, probably roblox administrator badge)

In my personal opinion I feel like the “Leaderboard” text is a bit too large and should be removed. Like the current playerlist, the X could be in the same area as the “People” text.
Additionally, I feel like the word “People” being there already gives enough of a description that this is a playerlist, making the “Leaderboard” text just additional bloat.

What’s the point? The previous one has been perfectly functional, instead of remaking it from the ground up the previous could at least be modified to match the current roblox UI style, while avoiding most of the current issues.

I agree, the previous UI looked nicer and had clean animations imo. I know opening the previous leaderboard on a larger server caused some performance issues, but if thats resolved I see no reason to fix what isn’t broken.

They’ve recently been overhauling some UI (such as the Roblox Studio UI), and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the beginning of the desktop/mobile app UI redesign. This sort of makes a little bit more sense to me putting it that way, but I still don’t see why we couldn’t just improve upon the UI we already had. Maybe that wasn’t a possibility for reasons that we don’t know yet.

The new leaderboard background is way too opaque, can’t see anything behind it, especially on games with lots of leaderstats. Can this get fixed?

You can adjust the transparency of CoreGuis (such as the chat) through Settings. I was going to verify if the leaderboard’s new UI would adjust to this setting, but I’ve since been moved back to the older leaderboard.

It was already on the most transparent option. So it is definitely something that needs adjustment

Just to quickly verify: Have you checked that the leaderboard does change transparencies based on this? This would definitely be something that should be addressed if it doesn’t.

i’m uncertain of this. I don’t seem to have the new UI anymore, so i cannot tell you

Same, it looks like they’ve reverted it at least for now
