New rank before Member

I was thinking about this idea of having a rank before “Member” and after “Visitor”. It would be called the “Guest” rank and you will be able to earn it by having 2 hours of total read time. The only ability this rank would be able to do is reply to topics. Posting topics would be completely prohibited. I think this would be a cool rank before you unlock “Member” because it allows people who aren’t a “Member” yet to send feedback about games in #help-and-feedback:cool-creations, etc.

Thank you.

The trust level before member is Visitor (which has trust level 0). By default Discourse lets TL0 users post after reading a while and posting a bit, however this forum has a plugin that manually prevents visitors from posting. If you are suggesting a trial rank, TL1 (Member) is the trial rank.

No, there shouldn’t be visitor rank. Because there’s might be alt accounts and new people that might post mean comments which violates the rules of devforum. What kind of question is this? Of course the answer is a no because of the obvious facts that rule breakers will do when they have the opportunity to reply when they are not member.

What do you mean? There already is a visitor rank which you get as soon as you join the DevForum.

I never said “Visitor”, also would anyone really create multiple alts and get 2 hours of read time on each one?

SOrry, I was going to say Guest rank.

But you didn’t read the whole thing clearly because you’d think that someone would create an account and spend 2 hours to get “Guest”? I see the 2 hour mark a good thing because by that time they would’ve read the rules and how to level up.

I didn’t undestand yours clearly.

Bad actors have gotten into the forum even with the current requirements.

This is just 2 examples, however there are many more which are all deleted. Disabling the plugin that prevents visitors from posting only worsens this issue, as it’s just a matter of creating an alt, logging into it on the devforum, reading on them for a couple hours, and freely posting.

Well it was just an idea of mine, I had been thinking about this for the past few hours so I just decided to post it here.

That is totally fine, but I am saying due to the current state of the community and technical limitations it is extremely unlikely this is added.

In order to add on the things that were previously stated, Discourse allows up to 4 trust levels which are used already (Members, Regulars, Editors, Leaders). Even if it was possible to make a 5th one, this would just result with an insane amount of bad actors.

I’m thinking it would be easy for people who aren’t dedicated to the forum to come onto here and start commenting nonsense on posts.

:beverage_box: Hey there mate!

This idea is completely, ABSURD. I have seen people with days of reading time breaking DevForum rules and cursing and doing much more in the platform. Adding a visitor rank will near ruin the platform experience for developers. We no longer would be able to discuss topics with ease.

Discourse only has 4 trust levels, all of which are currently used (Member, Regular, Editor, and Leader).

This is hard coded into Discourse and is difficult if not impossible to change, so this will never happen.
