Next Gen Studio UI Preview is here! [Beta]

My studio is stuck now.

The viewport is just pitch black.
No errors in the output neither in the logs (it seems).

Pressing File → Close Place does nothing.
Pressing File → Exit does nothing.
Pressing the X to close also does nothing.
Must be closed in the task manager.

Oh perfect thank you. Never thought of doing that as I was used to the arrow being there. Much appreciated.

When will the close button be added to the new UI?

Honestly, i dislike this change alot, i gave myself some time to get used to it but its just not sticking, 80% of the buttons i need are either not there or i need to add them myself, alot of stuff like testing/local server testing or just overall stuff we had in our topbars are just vanished.

I also think that the redo button should always been implemented like it always has been, if we can keep the old UI as an option i would really appraciate it.

Testing options (including multiple clients) are all in the top left corner now on the new UI. It’s a much more convenient of a location. Keeping the old UI is not going to happen. It’ll be better to say what you are missing in the new UI here and why you need it, so it can be added to fit your workflow. Eventually the old ui will have to be phased out.

The undo redo options are found in the edit dropdown at the top. Alternatively, you can use well known keybinds that almost every server uses universally. In fact, you can access a lot of options in the file bar very conventionally without having to add them to a tab.

TLDR: Tell the devs what you want/need and why it would be useful to you. Not everyone will have the same workflow as you.

Wow. Uh. This is probably a network issue on your end as your icons aren’t loading (even in the explorer tab) and any images in the 3D viewport aren’t loading. I’m not sure what the solution is, but I highly doubt this has anything to do with the ribbon based on these circumstances. As for the warnings, I get them in my output when I start studio too, but mine loads, so they are probably unrelated.

I opened another place and it loaded so some places loaded and some not.
But the inability of closing the place or clicking to exit the entire program always happens.

Thx, I’ll look into it, thanks for the reply.

By the way, I recently tried this out. I love the UI — it looks clean and modern. The custom tabs feature is well placed. The only suggestion I have is that there might be too much unused blank space. A lot of people mentioned this as a downgrade, but I personally don’t really mind. Adding a “Compact Mode” toggle in the settings that reduces the gaps between some UI elements would likely satisfy both sides.

The new studio UI is atrocious, it looks like it was made for children. It doesn’t look professional at all. The redesign features big, rounded buttons and wastes a ton of screen space. It honestly reminds me of how Scratch released a Jr. version.

I get Roblox is a platform targeted mainly towards childeren, but it really feels like we’re dumbing down the UI and making it more child friendly. I feel like they prioritized the experience of new children, over the average developer working with the engine.

I wouldn’t have a problem with this if it wasn’t being forced on us, its gone from beta to being enabled by default now. The next step is announcing the deprecation of the legacy studio UI.

Some of the UI changes to the explorer also feel bulky, the search bar has been doubled in size and looks out of place compared to the explorer content.

I get that a lot of people are opposed to change, but this UI is objectively bad. I know most people had a strong reaction to the new studio icons, but while you can see the reasoning behind that change I can’t seem to come up with any good reason for this redesign. It’s so childified.

Please, just make this change optional. Either do a stand-alone release specifically targeted towards children, or make sure this change continues being optional and isn’t forced down our throats.

You know you have a good update when it gets people excited, when they choose to willingly switch. Right now most developers are complaining, and looking for a way back.

Will there be the ability to create custom dropdown menus/custom layouts?

The old Studio UI had the view tab which was really usefull because it had everything at one place. Now you have to either find the tab where the button to enable/disable a window is or use the window menu at the upper left which is lacking customizablility.

That’s why I wanted to create a view tab using custom tabs. The problem is that there are too many buttons to fit if the icons are all full size.

The standard tabs of the Next Gen UI don’t have buttons with smaller icons, so I’m assuming the icon size can’t be changed even when using custom tabs.

But since some of the standard menus have dropdown menus I thought that maybe these also could be added to custom tabs which doesn’t seem to be the case.

So right now if you want to create a custom tab with lots of buttons you either have to create multiple tabs for that or have to use the three dots at the right that somewhat resemble a dropdown menu.

But this “dropdown menu” can neither be customized nor categorized. You just have one singular menu with everything that doesn’t fit into the tab.

I don’t see a problem with just adding an “Add dropdown” option to the right-click menu(The picture below is just a bad edit of how it might look like)

When clicking “Add dropdown” it could open the same menu that does when clicking “Add tools” only that the tools that are checked are added to the dropdown menu of the button that has been right-clicked.

The UI is honestly really clunky. So many options have been just shoved into dropdowns that were previously easily accessible. It’s very annoying. Some key shortcuts seem to have been removed too, or something’s bugging out on my side. It feels like web Microsoft Office. In fact, it feels like you’re apply web design properties into Roblox Studio. It just doesn’t fit.
