I am creating layered clothing and running into what I can only imagine to be bugs with the caging data. When I have just uploaded the file, I have zero issues, no errors are reported and everything works fine, then somewhere along the way I get the error “No cage data exists for . TemporaryRefernceId was not set.” And my clothes start clipping through the avatar/stop fitting properly.
I have also gotten this error message typically after re-opening the experience:
It may also be worth noting that when I have tried to fix this by just uploading the inner and outer cage files to the CageMeshContent and ReferenceMeshContent in properties, nothing happens..
The only times I have clipping issues is when this error shows up, and there have been a very small number of times that I’ve also had the error but not had any clipping issues.
This is particularly bad because it has now happened twice when I saved my object to Roblox, causing many clothing clipping issues with the avatars that were not happening before I saved it, wasting the Robux spent towards that.
The beta features I have enabled are:
Dragger QoL Improvements
Haptic Effects
Input Action System
New Luau type solver
Revamped Asset Manager
UI Styling
UIDragDetectors
Expected behavior
I expect that it would use the CageMeshContent/CageMeshId along with the ReferenceMeshContent/ReferenceMeshId in the handle wrap layer to properly generate the clothing cage.
Hey @Roame32, I’m on the Layered Clothing team and we’re looking at this. Are you still running into this? If so, can you send an RBXL of the avatar with the assets in it? Thanks so much!
It’s ridiculous that this is even sent in the console of games—developers do not need to know about these errors and they should be completely omitted from the console unless the user is creating the UGC item. Can this be looked into?
I have the same errors in my logs and in the Roblox Studio Console. It happens every time a layered clothing is applied to some rig (I spawn NPC Rigs and add to them layered jackets, hats, etc).
Those errors should be harmless and only happen in Studio, when they happen, Studio will regenerate the HSR data required. We’re looking into suppressing them but they shouldn’t prevent you from uploading good clothing items.
As has been mentioned above multiple times, these errors occur outside of Studio, in live game servers. As per your reply, this is clearly unintended behavior. Can you confirm you’re looking into fixing this?
