NTARF Rework - Information

Disclaimers

1. The NTARF Rework will not be 0.4 of the NTARF, since it will be much bigger than the current NTARF.

2. This version of the ARF will be a lot smaller short-term, but will have much more gradual releases to get more updates out and to break less things.

Release plans for the ARF rework

I first plan on releasing an early alpha version, not far from release but very much unstable.

After that it's the 0.1 release which will be released publicly, and all releases after that up to 0.65 excluding bugfixes will be internal releases.

After that 0.7 will release, and strictly internal releases again. 0.7 will feature a stable backend, as well as the fusion & thermal cascade events! These will be the first destructive events (excluding startup failure) for the ARF, and what will come after this publicly?

The 1.0a release

After the 1.0 release, NTARF 0.3 will fully close as it will be replaced by the ARF rework, and the ARF rework's place will be renamed to NextTech Advanced Research Facility.

That version will feature a lot more events, that may be triggered by certain circumstances, or just occur completely at random, and will be some of the more major ones, like earthquakes, which will also cause the facility integrity to degrade, and they can be anywhere from just a rumble to a very heavy decrease in facility integrity, somewhere around 10%. Now, for the Fusion Cascade...

Cascades at 1.0b Release

1.0b is planned to be The Cascading Update, and will be named that due to the Cascade series of ARF events.

The Cascading Events will be:
  • Fusion Cascade
This event aims to be the most destructive event the ARF will see in this update, and I aim to make it the best one too.

  • Thermal Cascade
This is an event that will occur when the DER’s temperature reaches the threshold of a Thermal Runaway, but the pressure isn’t high enough for the DER’s integrity to degrade fast enough.

  • Emergent Cascade
This is planned to be the shortest ARF cascading event. This event will emerge randomly, and may cause the facility to collapse if handled improperly.

Plans for the rework

So, I do actually have some plans for the facility going forward, so here they are.

1.1 - The Expansionary Update (TEU)

This update is planned to be an expansion of the underground facility, and will feature a whole new section, that being Section 4, the one that will be the longest away from Section 1, and will also expand the TransitCentral, being the central point of the facility, being kind of like a central point.

1.2 - The Surface Expansion Update (TSEU)

1.2 will expand on the pre-existing ARF's topside drastically, bringing a LOT of new possibilities. This includes a new surface zone, known as Zone T3 for it's strategic purposes. It will also bring FacilityStealthGuard, the defense system of the facility which will serve many defensive purposes, such as defending topside buildings in the case of a missile attack. The FSG will also bring several maintenance tasks to Security personnel, like restocking artillery of anti-missile systems.

1.3 - The Transit Update (TTU)

To be planned.

1.4 - The Reactor Update (TRU)

1.4 will bring a new generation of DER to the game, replacing the Mk2 DER that was there before. Will also feature a brand new DER I/O system, with a brand new control room, reactor chamber, and DER maintenance area. Although they will be new, they will also stay in (relatively) the same position.

1.5 - The Laboratorial Update (TLU)

1.5 brings a brand new section to the reworked ARF, namely Section 4. This is almost 2km away from Section 1, a good 20 minute walk without any sprint system. The update will bring an unplanned amount of laboratories.

This update is largely unplanned as of the time of writing.
