Number Blasters +-*/ Let's kick some math!

Hello there.

If you would like to take a seat, I will share with you a story of a dystopian future where ordinary Numbers have come to life and enslaved or destroyed most of the human race, until one brave hero joined a ruthless faction for protection. Strength in numbers, heh…

These warring factions were all that remained of mankind and survived by hunting these Numbers for sport and thrills. Our hero wasn’t chasing adrenaline rushes though, they finally figured out the Numbers weakness. While they were bigger and stronger and smarter than the average human, they have no understanding of basic mathematics. The thought of adding and dividing each other seemed trivial and disturbing to the Numbers.

Using this weakness against the Numbers, our hero was able to communicate with a secret military base that figured out how to eliminate the Numbers once and for all. Numbers were also telepathic and able to intercept all frequencies of communication, so the base must encode the sequence in which to kill the Numbers using basic math facts.

Could you be the one who saves what is left of humanity?

TL;DR
When a math problem comes up on the screen, kill the answer for rewards.
If you see a player of an opposing faction, kill them for rewards.

[ALPHA] Number Blasters

Could you try my game and give me some suggestions or feedback?

Please keep in mind that I am newish to Roblox, Lua, animation, modeling, and game design.
I am mainly looking for things that ought to be done before launching into a Beta version of the game and tips on improvements that I have not listed below.

State of Development:

Maps
I am making at least one more map before release. (a farm probably, maybe a skyscraper or both)
I want the maps to have unique gameplay mechanics and styles/scenes/sizes.
Some of the maps have free model placeholders still and will be replaced or scrapped entirely for better ideas or suggestions.
Most of the maps are functional, but need to have more aesthetic appeal.

Animations
Many animations are custom or not done yet. For example, I have the same custom animation for every riffle instead of a unique one for each riffle.
The cutscene is buggy and will be replaced when I learn how to script a tutorial using beams or quests/NPC dialog.

Core Elements
Most of the core gameplay elements are bug-free, except one that is eluding me. (If you kill a bot and the question changes, it doesn’t add it back into answer table upon respawn until the next question.)

GUI
I want to re-design the GUI to make it cleaner and less scattered. I would like to keep the style Minimalist, Arcade/Sci-fi.
I will be adding Tweening to GUIs as well, but I figured that could wait, but I don’t really know what is right.

Sound
I haven’t figured out how to make the sound work from playergui, so some sounds are global when they should not be.

Features to add?
I was thinking of duplicating the lobby for each faction, but I think people will bot more frequently instead of playing the game if there is no threat of imminent death.

I have not had much feedback as my sons and their friend are really the only other players than me, so the feedback hasn’t exactly been critical. After Beta release, I will have the data wiped and advertise the game to see if it has any appeal in its then-current state.

Thanks for reading/playing and any feedback you have for me!

This game is quite well made for being new to all of these areas. With that being said I found some things I think you could improve hidden below.

Intro

Your intro text is far too large. I would be having to sit quite a distance away from my monitor to read it comfortably.

GUI

There are two things I think could improve your GUI.

  • Make it so that your abilities show the cooldown in some way so I know when I can use it again.
  • Your show hud button is very large, and in a different position than the hide hud button. I would try to make it smaller and keep it in the same spot as the hide button so I don’t have to look for it.
Core gameplay

The one thing I really wish existed in core gameplay was a way to determine how long the question would stay on the top. With no indicator it’s kind of hard for me to determine if I should keep looking for the current number or just keep track of the numbers I had already found. I also think the time for the questions should be a bit longer.

Thanks, I am really lost with the GUI.
I spent about 5 hours today scrolling through GUIs showcased on here and I still am just staring at it.

I will scale the text down until I can get the tutorial going.

I did have a timer for the seconds remaining, but I was trying to refresh the library of correct answers more often (which didn’t work) and had to take it out when I changed the script. I will put it back in as you get less time for the lower grade levels now and more time as the problems get harder.

Thanks!

While implementing the timer, I forgot how I did it the first time, but I came up with a better way of doing it while refreshing the library every second at the same time to remove the biggest bug!

I removed the intro entirely as the more I worked on it, the more it hurt my eyes. I will be working on a basic NPC tutorial for now before I start the GUI overhaul.

Thanks again!

Hi everyone! I have updated the lobby, tutorial, game-play, UI, NPC, scoring system, pets, class system, lore, and boss fights. Please drop in for a few rounds and let me know what you think, specifically if you can in the following areas or bugs you come across:

How I can explain to new players what to do better
UI (HUD) and player feedback
The lobby design
How I can tell the story better
Any way to make the game-play more fun

I have had to learn everything I am doing so far as I go, but it is such a big project now that tackling anything takes hours or days to learn, implement, and test depending on difficulty so I want to work on what needs the most help in your opinions.

Update on the game.
It is going live on May 1st.
Here is the new trailer:

Here is a 2 week long contest starting May 1st.
All data will be reset at that point except badges and gamepasses.
Here is a quick pic I made with the details!

Also, please leave feedback here or message me or join the group if you would like to report any bugs you find. Thank you for everyone who has helped me in this year long project. (it is my first game and I took about 6 months off in total due to working overtime)

Sharpen up your math skills in just one hour.

THIS should be in your description! It sounds awesome!

Thank you for your feedback! I had a story and a little description before but nobody seemed to read it, so I put it in the tutorial and lore. I kept running out of space and having to summarize it more and more until I didn’t like it so I tried for a flashier description.

There are two days left in the contest before the first big updated to Number Blasters!

To win the contest, you must be in the top 3 on the leader board for Blasted numbers!

Hope to see you out there, Blaster!
