On 8/9 around 1:40 PM EST, my game got silently taken down from Roblox with no warning

This post is on behalf of @rockstarferal he is not high enough level to make posts yet

Please take a look at this, @Caelestene

On 8/9 around 1:40 PM EST, my game got silently taken down from Roblox with no warning, email, notification, or anything on my creator dashboard. It was doing around 800–1,000 CCU at the time, so I noticed when the player count suddenly started dropping, and people started asking what happened.

After checking everything, I eventually found two violations in the appeals dashboard from 8/5 and 8/9. Both were for the content maturity questionnaire, where i had selected violence as “occasional/mild” while moderation determined it should be “repeated/mild.” I had never been notified about either violation.

As soon as I found out, I immediately changed the rating to the requested option and appealed both violations. One appeal was accepted while the other was denied, despite being for the exact same issue. Then three additional violations from 8/2–8/3 suddenly appeared in the dashboard after the appeals were reviewed, even though they weren’t there when I originally checked.

Eventually, the game was “manually reviewed”, and its age-range access was restored, and all of my appeals are now accepted with everything showing green. However, the whole thing still seemed stuck in a weird limbo state for a while, which makes me think there may be some kind of backend/race-condition issue with the automatic moderation system. After further research, I have found that this is a re-occurring issue seen all across the developer forums where even after the native appeals system claims approved, there is a race condition / no fallback if the automatic moderation action doesn’t properly restore the moderated experience correctly.

What’s frustrating is that I had no opportunity to fix anything beforehand because I was never told there was an issue. I was actively spending thousands on advertising, the game was growing, and then it just disappeared without warning. Now my players are understandably confused and accusing me and my staff of scamming them. It has been 5 days now with zero word, real response, emails or actual information on what’s occuring. I have tried and tried and tried to reach out to support, moderation, devforum, dev-rel, anyone who could help me with this automatic moderation failure to no avail. Additionally, if possible an invitation to the devl-rel discord support server would be extremley appreciated in figuring out a soluion to these issues.

I’ve also found other developers reporting what appears to be the exact same silent-takedown → appeal accepted → experience still hidden issue on the devforum. Public experience hidden from Search & Discovery after Content Maturity Questionnaire review, Game on Limbo Status

I’m not saying I couldn’t have made a mistake with the maturity rating, but I fixed it immediately once I actually became aware of it. At this point, I’m mainly trying to get someone to look at the backend history and figure out why this happened, because everything on my end is now cleared and compliant.

I have been as compliant as possible, filled out all the recommended actions with appeals/technical support. The replies were vague and provided no resolution, and claimed to be working on it without any real updates or information. It has been 5 days now since this occurred. I have been spending 1k+ USD a week on advertising, and am receiving the same support timeline as games that actually violate the moderation guidelines. I have followed all the recommended actions and guidelines before making a post.

Proof of everything is attached below, my violations & appeals ticket IDs that are accepted, my support ticket number, screenshots and graphs

This is a HUGE issue, and it worries me for my game, because what if it gets deleted out of nowhere too? Bug should be fixed asap, it puts all Roblox games (big ones included) at risk.

Hello, just wanted to bump this post and provide some updates after I have now unlocked devforum access on my account. Thank you to @proganingx900 for helping post our issue.

@Caelestene It would mean the world if you could please take a look at this issue. I know you deal with content maturity label-based product management and was hoping you could potentially help us in any way, shape, or form by getting in contact with someone who can uplift the stale moderational state that the experience is currently in. This game has a prevalent social media presence and community that are all confused and upset regarding this situation.

I want to add a factual update because TECHY is still completely inaccessible to every account except the owner (me), and the responses from Support have become increasingly contradictory.

Nothing about the underlying issue has changed:

  • Experience: TECHY
  • Start Place ID: 99881445915767
  • Universe ID: 9893170196
  • Owner User ID: 493407
  • Original Support Ticket: 179098020
  • Additional Support Request: 179360690
  • All associated moderation appeals continue to show as accepted/green.
  • The owner can access the experience, but every non-owner account receives an unavailable experience page and cannot join.

Support timeline

August 11, 6:58 AM UTC: Appeals sent a generic response about Community Standards and improving discovery reach. This did not address the fact that the experience had become completely inaccessible after
the appeals were accepted.

August 11, 1:20 PM UTC: Appeals stated that they could not assist and had forwarded the issue to Customer Support.

August 11, 2:24 PM UTC: Customer Support sent information about account eligibility requirements for publishing or updating public experiences. This also did not explain why an already-public experience
with 800–1,000 concurrent users had suddenly become visible only to its owner. The response itself stated that existing public experiences would not be taken down solely because of those eligibility
requirements.

August 11, 5:53 PM UTC: Support stated that its team was “currently looking into the issue” and would notify me when it was resolved.

August 12, 4:41 PM UTC: Support stated that it was aware of the issue, that it was “under review by the appropriate teams,” and that there was no estimated timeframe for resolution.

At that point, I believed the issue had finally reached someone capable of inspecting the universe’s internal state.

However, on August 14, Support returned to the beginning of the process:

  • At 3:07 PM UTC, Support acknowledged that I could access the experience while other users could not, but then directed me to a “General Roblox Studio Issues” article.
  • At 3:27 PM UTC, Support advised me to restart my computer, reinstall Roblox, troubleshoot my internet connection, and check my firewall and router.

Those steps cannot resolve this problem. The failure occurs on the public Roblox website before Studio or the Roblox client is launched, and the result follows the Roblox account rather than any particular computer or connection.

I understand that frontline Support has standard troubleshooting procedures, and I do not expect an immediate technical resolution. However, it is difficult to understand how this went from being “under review by the appropriate teams” to troubleshooting one computer’s installation and firewall.

None of the responses have explained:

  • Which team currently owns the investigation.
  • Whether Universe ID 9893170196 has actually been inspected.
  • Whether a moderation or visibility restriction remains attached to it.
  • Why accepted appeals did not restore public access.
  • Whether the earlier escalation is still active.
  • What, if anything, Roblox needs from me to move the case forward.

Independent public verification

To rule out a local device or connection issue, the experience was also checked from an external, unauthenticated environment.

The original experience URL: https://www.roblox.com/games/99881445915767/TECHY
is publicly resolved as: https://www.roblox.com/games/99881445915767/Title-Unavailable

Roblox’s public Games API currently returns placeholder information for the universe, including:

  • [TITLE UNAVAILABLE]
  • [DESCRIPTION UNAVAILABLE]
  • Creator [UNKNOWN]
  • Zeroed experience and root-place IDs
  • "isContentRestricted": true

Public API result: https://games.roblox.com/v1/games?universeIds=9893170196

At the same time, Roblox’s place-to-universe endpoint still correctly recognizes the place and maps it to Universe ID 9893170196:

https://apis.roblox.com/universes/v1/places/99881445915767/universe

I am not claiming to know the exact internal cause. These results simply demonstrate that Roblox’s public services are treating the universe as unavailable or restricted. This is not something that restarting or reinstalling Roblox can change.

I have complied with every moderation and support request, corrected the content-maturity questionnaire immediately, submitted the appeals, and provided every requested identifier and screenshot. I am happy to provide any additional information that is actually relevant to the universe’s visibility state.

At this point, I am asking for a Roblox staff member to please confirm whether this case is genuinely assigned to a team that can inspect and repair the universe-level moderation/visibility state. If another restriction remains, please tell me what it is. If the accepted appeals failed to restore the experience correctly, please reprocess or manually correct that state.

I am not asking for moderation to be bypassed. I am asking for the accepted moderation result and the experience’s actual public accessibility to be reconciled.

Thank you for your time, and thank you for all your support. Simply resharing this post/showing friends/leaving a reply/a heart or bookmark will help increase its chances of reaching the appropriate staff and finally get this situation resolved, not just for me, but hopefully for everything this may be affecting or potentially able to affect.

TLDR:

There is a stale moderational state on Roblox’s side where, even after an experience appeals a violation and the appeals are accepted, the experience remains inaccessible despite displaying perfect health to the creator in some strange stale race condition. It genuinely is astonishing to me that a multibillion-dollar company does not have any fallbacks/verification checks if the automatic moderation fails. Then we are stuck in an impossible support pipeline with no actual human communication that may take months to reach a resolution, despite, at least in my case, an extremely time-sensitive situation with 800-1k CCU now all pissed off at me. Genuinely, this timeline is absurd to me, and seeing how many people are reporting this with no resolution is also ridiculous.

Why does everyone think that this is Roblox’s mistake, and not his deliberate policy?

Well, I doubt a stale moderation bug is “deliberate”; you can’t really blame the company for trying to go “full automated support,” as pretty much every mega-corporation is doing so nowadays. Cuts costs, is faster and more efficient, but in this current day and age is making a ton of mistakes. It just disappoints me that the lack of care/thouroughness in ensuring that this automatic moderation has some sort of human fallback that can oversee and ensure there are no issues if it fails. The old support timeline was even worse than the current, so it brings some benefits; however, clearly once this new automated system fails, it’s harder than ever to get in contact with someone with a brain and even worse than before.

Well, then if AI Roblox deletes your game and account, you shouldn’t worry. After all, he switched to a more efficient system, and you’re just a minor mistake that can be ignored.

In general game access/metric updating right now is so insanely slow. It took a day and a half before my game became playable/discoverable to 16+ users once I filled out the questionnaire. When I ran ads it took a full 6 days before my first day of metrics showed up. I’ve heard of it taking up to 2 weeks after hitting the 500 HEP requirement before your game actually becomes all ages. It takes 7-14 days for a game to start getting home recommendations after the metrics come in.

Really not sure what’s going on internally but it is beyond frustrating. If I wanted to update my game weekly the metrics I’m getting would be borderline useless given they take 6 days to come in meaning I would be building updates semi blind as to what worked and didn’t work with my last update. When I launched a game around the end of 2025 the metrics consistently updated every 12 am with the previous days worth.

explain to me what reason would possibly motivate a company to wish to screw over the developers that they quite literally can’t make money without. It makes zero logical sense for them to conspire against the people that their platform runs off, I think they are just cutting corners

I think they just decided to replace the developers with their own AI, now it is undergoing training, and after a while it will start churning out games. There will be a small number of real major developers, the rest will disappear.

if roblox could find a way to make an AI that can make good all around games (scripting, building, UI, design) they would be in competition with openAI and anthropic. AI will not make game designers fully obsolete for the foreseeable future if ever

They don’t need that. Ninety percent of Roblox games are outright garbage. And the main players are children who are not picky about the content.

by “good all around game” I mean a game that could even compete with 2014 standards. Like even a copy and pasted tycoon or obby. AI is not remotely close to being able to do anything at even a basic level beyond scripting and a little bit of UI

Good. Tell us your version of why it was necessary to make publishing games as difficult as possible. Replace the support service with an AI bot that automatically rejects appeals. And create a monstrous moderation system where innocent developers lose games, accounts, and the money they earn.

I think the cause is exactly what your complaining about. AI makes creating games easier than ever and widens the barrier to entry like nothing ever seen before. Therefore instead of wasting corporate revenue on trying to perfectly moderate and ensure everything is amazing in every game made by every little Timmy, its a lot easier to then shrink the barrier to entry back down by adding all these additional checks, age ranges, and paid incentives so that little Timmy vibecoding his first game isn’t costing the company.

It has now been almost 9 days since my game was placed in this stale broken state by the automatic moderation, and I have Recived zero updates, zero information, zero human contact or help on a resolution that would literally require 2 minutes of any staff time. Please @staff can anyone take a look at this thread, I’ve provided so much proof and explanation. I should not be punished for trying to do my job because your support pipeline is terrible

One of my games was deleted before for a similar reason. We were part of a private creators discord where we can raise support tickets and get assistance from developer relations. We first tried to appeal using the official support systems like you did, where we were denied and told nothing. But then after raising a ticket in their discord server, we were provided exact specific concrete details (including screenshots) of the ‘policy violating content’ and the issue was resolved in less than 8 hours.

I called them out on this and told them it’s completely unfair for other developers to not even receive two human sentences about what the violating content was, and that having to rely on third-party apps like discord to receive support is quite unprofessional. They told me that they “understand the frustration but are glad we can support developers directly through discord” and that they will “can’t guarantee they will make any changes” to the current support system.

Nothing is going to improve, it’s been like this for years and they’d rather just delete your game and refuse to pay you than work alongside up-and-coming games.

I know, man its terrible, ive tried and tried to get devrel access or reach out to any human able to assist me, yet, coming up on two weeks now, I haven’t received a single human sentence. Worst part is, my game isn’t even deleted, and my support tickets weren’t even denied. They just sent me a preset response, “We are working on it,” with zero info, and now trying to reach out says they can’t provide more info from an auto-response bot.

It’s still hard to process that I spent 9 months of my time developing a professional full front and back-end FPS framework on their platform, and the second I finally release and pick up traction, I get screwed by a bug on THEIR end, they admit its their fault, yet not one person can take 3 seconds out of their day to fix the stale moderation lock on my game. Everyone with dev-rel access I’ve spoken to has told me they aren’t even allowed to make tickets on others’ behalf, or else they get kicked out of the server.
