Open Cloud DataStore API now returning upstream timeout (used to work)

Hello,
I am using the endpoint:

https://apis.roblox.com/cloud/v2/universes/{universe_id}/data-stores

to list and clean up DataStores.

This script worked fine before, but since recently the request now fails with:

{"errors":[{"code":0,"message":"upstream request timeout"}]}

Nothing in my code, API key, or headers changed.

This looks like a recent issue on the Open Cloud backend.

I am using PowerShell wuth :

Invoke-RestMethod -Method Get -Uri $url -Headers $headers

Expected behavior

I expect the endpoint

https://apis.roblox.com/cloud/v2/universes/{universe_id}/data-stores

to reliably return the full list of DataStores across all pages — even when there are many DataStores — when called through PowerShell using:

Invoke-RestMethod -Method Get -Uri $url -Headers $headers

The pagination flow should complete without timing out, just like it did previously.

Hi @Unknow_sad, is this error consistent for every request to this endpoint, or is it occurring intermittently?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

The error {"errors":[{"code":0,"message":"upstream request timeout"}]} occurs consistently, regardless of which API key I use. It is not intermittent: every request to

https://apis.roblox.com/cloud/v2/universes/{universe_id}/data-stores

returns this error.

Hey there, I’d like to get some more info to debug the issue

What is the Universe Id that you are using for these requests?
I tried reproducing this on my end but the endpoint is working fine for my test universe. Have you tried this for another universe you own? Can you do so if you haven’t already and let me know if those requests succeed?

Do you use any other Open Cloud APIs for this experience? If so, are there any errors there or are these isolated to the DataStore Open Cloud API?

Hey, just to clarify, the universe_id for this is in the DM associated with this discussion. This issue seems to happen only for this specific universe. We’ve deleted around a hundred unused DataStores with the script, and since then it feels like our universe might have been blocked from making Cloud requests…

This only started happening when you started deleting data stores right? (or keys)

What happens if you toggle exclude deleted on and off? Do you get the same thing?

Yes, I’m experiencing the same issue, even when using the option that excludes deleted datastores. This started happening right after I stopped my script that was deleting datastores (not keys).

I paused the script for the night, then tried to run it again the next day, and from that moment the API stopped working. Since then, every request has been returning an upstream request timeout, even with the “exclude deleted” option enabled.

Hi,

It’s a bit strange, but the “upstream request timeout” issue with the Open Cloud DataStore API seems to be working again now. Requests are going through on my end.

Hello, I wanted to resume the script today and I’m getting a timeout again… Help!

Unfortunately I’m still unable to repro so a couple of questions:

  1. Do you get the same timeouts when using engine or the v1 OpenCloud data stores endpoints?
  2. Did this start happening as soon as you started deleting data stores or after you deleted a lot of data stores?

Yes, this happens after I’ve mass-deleted DataStores using my script. It’s likely related to that, since I’m using the beta endpoint:

https://apis.roblox.com/cloud/v2/universes/{universe_id}/data-stores/{data_store_id}

After stopping my script, if I try to run it again, I get timeouts until the DataStores are fully deleted (i.e., after the restoration period ends).

Interestingly, game:GetService("DataStoreService"):ListDataStoresAsync() still works internally without issues.
