"Open local copy" does nothing in Roblox Studio

Ever since a few weeks ago I have been experiencing issues with opening older versions of my games. The issue being that “Open local copy” does nothing when pressed in Version History.
I thought it was game-specific but I decided to check if it really was by opening up a different game with way less versions, only for it to not work again as seen in the video below.

(it has been 10 minutes as of recording the video still nothing happened as of writing this)
I’ve noticed this exact issue also happens on my laptop(IdeaPad 3i Slim I5IRH10 running Windows 11 Home, 25H2).
Here are my current specs:
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, NVIDIA RTX 3060, 32GB DDR5 RAM, running Windows 11 Pro 25H2.
Here are the beta features I currently have enabled:

Reproduction steps:

  1. Make any sort of experience and save it to Roblox(or if you already have an experience with multiple versions, ignore steps 1 and 2. Instead, open that experience.).
  2. Apply changes, save again. (i just found out this is optional since you can also open a local copy of the current version but it doesnt matter)
  3. Go into Version History.
  4. Click on the three dots next to the previous or current version(like i said, it doesnt matter), then click on “Open local copy”.
  5. If the Roblox Studio splash AND window for the version you selected to open it’s local copy of also doesn’t appear for you after clicking, congratulations! You have successfully reproduced the issue.

Expected behavior

What I expect to happen:
Upon clicking “Open local copy”, a new Studio window should open with the local copy of the version I selected in Version History without any appearant issues.

Hi, thanks for the bug report!

Could you send me the logs from the Studio session where this issue occurs? This will help me investigate further. Here’s a quick guide: https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016022492-How-to-Retrieve-Roblox-Studio-Logs

Also could you check if you’re able to open any new Studio windows?
Try File > New and see if Studio opens a new window. Let me know.

Thanks!

Hello, the log files should be in the private messages associated with this thread which is visible to the members of the bug-files group.

I have also tried to use File > New, which also did nothing.
Also, while I checked the log files myself, I found out there were multiple Failed startNewProcess with code 193 (%1 is not a valid Win32 application) errors on both logs, which got me really uncertain on if it’s really just Studio.
To explain further, I changed my Windows account’s name a few months ago and that caused a few apps to have issues, usually failing to use the correct path since Windows does NOT fully update all account related registries to the updated path, making this an off-platform issue.

Nice find, that’s the log line I was looking for.

We’ve seen this issue come up before with the same root cause: "Open Local Copy" Button doesn't work when trying to open a local copy for an older version.

I’ll forward it to the right team and check in on the progress. It looks like we just need better handling of the path.
