[OPEN] Looking for 1+ person(s) to join me on a BUILDING/SOCIAL GAME

About

I am a solo builder/scripter/modeler working on a game that will be primarily a building game, but will also have social/city, monetary, and (most probably) minigame elements. I am fairly new to Roblox Studio and Lua, but as an experienced Python programmer and game developer I am picking things up fast. However, I want this project in Beta (ideally) in under a month, so that calls for at least one more experienced person to join me.

Who I’m looking for

I am primarily looking for a more experienced scripter, and a GUI designer/scripter. As you’ll see later in the post, the game design is meant to be blocky, so that makes building fairly simple, and doesn’t require modeling, but if you can build well and do low poly decorations (e.g. benches), it could go a long way.

What I have so far

Nothing you see is either final or set in stone (I am very open to suggestions and changes). More than a few things are not functioning right at least on some level, and almost nothing is where it should be visually, most things were designed basically, just to test functionality.
So, what I have so far is a well designed grid placement system, a color picker, a size picker (from 1x1x1 to 8x8x8 studs) some basic surroundings and decorations, a functioning elevator, and semi-functional save/load system, plot claiming system and destroy tool.

Try it out: Bloxcity

I have to credit and thank @Vrilith for a few of these things and for helping me get started <3

What I have to contribute

Mostly time, planning and overseeing. As mentioned, I am still new to most of the software involved, so don’t expect anything spectacular from me. However, do expect very serious involvement, and serious problem-solving and algorithmic scripting skills.
I will be unavailable at some times (most notably in the coming week) like all people are, but on days when I have no other obligations, you can expect an average of 8 - 10 hours of involvement from me.
I also have some funds to invest into advertising and other things that might need to be paid for (like thumbnail and ads design). You can expect me to invest a minimum of 100 USD towards these initial needs, but more probably around 200 USD.

What I imagine for Beta

Other than fixing existing issues and semi-functional/dysfunctional elements, finishing/changing the surroundings, and some minor changes, for the Beta release, I have imagined that:

  • The monetary system should be in place: some Cube currency that will be used for placing building blocks (the same or almost the same amount should be refunded when a block is destroyed) and almost everything else available for purchase
  • A texture/material picker should be integrated into the Build Tool, with a few textures and materials available to choose from
  • A Tool should be made that allows players to recolor and change the transparency of their existing blocks, and also of any other block that is on their platform (lamp post parts, tv-panel parts, sidewalk parts with transparent textures)
  • The Like and Block Count functionality needs to be implemented into each building platform GUI, Likes should give players additional currency
  • For X players with most Likes, there should be platforms to display their buildings across all servers
  • A report button should be integrated into each building platform GUI (if someone builds an inappropriate shape)
  • A Save/Load GUI as well as some Settings GUI should be made
  • There should be some Premium perks in place, as well as some badges
  • There should be an option to purchase the in-game currency for Robux, and some of the above mentioned things should be available for Robux purchase as well
  • There should be at least some way (other than Likes) to earn in-game currency in-game, like a simple minigame, an in-game job, or something else

Absolute requirements

Communication, communication, communication. There must be fluent, honest, blunt and frequent communication between all developers for any project to run smoothly. Everyone should be ready to both give and receive fair and thought-through criticism, and be open to politely agree to disagree in some cases, and sometimes do what the rest of the team thinks is best even if they don’t agree. In extreme cases, I’d like to reserve the right for my word to be final.
Everyone should also be realistic and open about their availability, so everyone else can organize accordingly.
We should also track tasks/progress somehow, on Trello or elsewhere.
None of this is imagined to be too formal, but some level of organization simply goes a long way.
The game is and will stay absolutely clean (this includes warning/banning players who build inappropriate shapes).

Payment

Revenue share. I am looking for someone who believes in the idea enough to accept revenue share as a payment system, and is willing to deal with it fairly rather than expect an even cut. That means that we’ll take into account how much time/effort each person has put in, how much expertise each task required, how much (if any - not required) funds did each person invest into ad campaigns etc. and agree on each person’s share.

Contact

If you agree with everything mentioned above (or understand and agree with the spirit behind it all) feel free to either post a reply below, message me on DevForum, or add/message me on Discord: scripts.py#9555
If you are interested in joining (you’re not just contacting me to ask some questions) have some screenshots/GIFs/URLs of your work ready.

Final words

Of course this is not all of the terms and things that need to be agreed upon and everything that needs to be talked about, and I probably forgot to mention a few things, but I hope that you get the gist of it all.
As mentioned before, I am very open to suggestions and changes, if the suggestions are thought-through and reasonable. I am doubting some things myself, for example the whole building-inside-a-building world design - it’s nice, but I’d be very happy if you have a better suggestion.
What’s mostly set in stone are the things mentioned in the Absolute requirements and Payment sections, but even for those I’ll hear you out and consider what you say.

If you’re not interested in the project yourself but know someone who might be, please share this Topic with them, I’d appreciate it very much.

If you’ve read through all of this you’re a champ, and thank you for the time spared

One thing I forgot to really put an emphasis on is that these are only plans for the Beta release. There is more that I have imagined, and who knows what one of you (or the players) might suggest.

Here’s an example, something that I definitely want done after Beta is all bug-free:

A Vehicle item for purchase (either for in-game currency or Robux - I haven’t thought about all the payments much) that gives a player a platform to place on their plot, which then spawns a most basic vehicle (flat plate with four wheels and a driver seat) which they can build upon with blocks with just as much versatility as with regular building. They can also add a limited amount of regular seats to it.

Another one, which I maybe should include in Beta plans is to enable players to disable/enable Collisions on their building blocks.

And there’s more, like making leavers/switches, moving parts, spikes (combined with no collision blocks, this would be great for making booby-traps), etc. but these are too far ahead.
