Opening F9 console cause lag in everyone

Summary
Opening the Developer Console in-game causes severe, persistent server lag.
The lag affects every player in the server, not just local player.

The lag continues even after;

  • The developer who open the console leaves
  • Developer Console is closed

Yes, it is still happening.

microprofile-20251121-225231.zip (5.2 MB)

Let me know if that works, 10 years in the platform and first time taking this snapshot

Additional info; Planes have network ownership set to their occupant

I think this occurring to me! I was wondering what was causing an issue and I ended up rolling back to an older update in my game to no avail.

Please keep active updates here, this is very confusing on my end.

I’ve confirmed this is still an issue. If I go into active match in my game Strategema, which currently is rolled back to last week’s update, and open the dev console - it will crash whoever is there.

If I don’t open the Roblox developer console, everything is fine.
So this is a serious issue, I’m surprised this was allowed out during what’s effectively the Thanksgiving holiday shutdown.

For me, I’ll be going back to my latest game update… and just not opening the developer console until I hear otherwise.

And additionally, this is only for the Developer F9 console. Any other players opening their respective F9 console does not seem to cause this (source: local community member).

Can you check if this happens with:

  • Places you have edit access to
  • Places you don’t have edit access to

this is only for the Developer F9 console. Any other players opening their respective F9 console does not seem to cause this

Based on @mag’s comment, my guess is that it only applies to those with edit access to the current place, but I’d like to make sure from your end.

Thanks!

It only works in our place, and other developers can do it as well. I can’t make another game crash which I do not own

Please keep us updated about this, our game is new in algo and we’re pushing many versions. If something goes wrong, we are blind.

One more thing, It only works when there are a lot of people in the server, so we can’t repro this in studio or VIP servers

@FunnyGlaggle @MaxCaulfield_001

This issue is actively hurting our game. Off-topic but, it is very hard to release a game without it being a simulator

We released an update to fix our loading screen, our change seems to hurt even more. We can’t reproduce it without a server full of players or, opening F9 console. It gives us a huge blind spot.

This is one of the multiple areas we can’t diagnose properly.

I am also happy to give edit access, so you can reproduce it directly

I made a post a week ago with more information about this but it never got any attention from any admins
My game’s servers permanently lag after opening the console as a developer. - Bug Reports / Engine Bugs - Developer Forum | Roblox

At this point im pretty convinced its not specific to my game nor a bug on my end, as multiple people have also confirmed it happening.

This bug is kind of annoying because I effectively havent been able to debug anything for the past week on live servers

I can confirm this issue is still persisting, If one person opens the console, the whole server tanks in performance.

i’m having the exact same bug, it legit only happens WHEN you press F9 to open the console, the ping steadily increases from say 60 ms to 50,000+ms.

i have this exact same issue, none of my code is the issue because i haven’t updated it for almost a month now, and then it started happening when i press f9, the avg data ping as seen at the top of the developer console beside the client memory usage, goes from say 50-60ms and steadily spikes/increases all the way to 50,000ms+. someone else made a post already about this just wanted to put my input.

It is really bad in this game: San Aurie - Roblox

When I (the dev) am opening the console, the server starts lagging a lot, and it doesn’t stop

Happens in [:snowflake::fire: MASTERY] Heroes Battlegrounds - Roblox when anyone with edit access opens the dev console, in both our dev place and main place, with no code changes. I’m unable to get a server microprofile as the server starts dying so hard I can’t even generate it

Hey all, the issue should be resolved now! If you have any further problems or questions, please direct them to Severely Degraded Server Performance when Developer Console is opened. which is a duplicate of this issue.
