Opt-in Your Pass(es) for the Buy Robux page

Hi Creators,

We’re excited to announce a new way for users to discover your experience and game pass(es). Over the past few months, we’ve been testing personalized bonus items on the Buy Robux page. This feature lets creators opt-in their game passes to be featured on the page, where users can receive the item with select Robux purchases. Starting today, all creators can opt-in their game pass to be eligible to be featured on this page.

This is an opportunity for us to upsell your experience to more users as they are buying Robux. Our testing has shown that this upsell increases time spent and Robux spent in the experience. To maximize conversion, we recommend creating a unique game pass specifically for this feature on the Buy Robux page.

How it works

  • Opted-in passes will be available with select Robux packages and potentially featured on the Buy Robux page.
  • Users see a pass that they don’t currently own that is personalized to them based on their playtime. For example, if a user has spent a significant time in an experience, they are more likely to see a bonus item from that experience.
  • A user will receive the bonus item pass when they purchase an eligible Robux package.
  • Creators will not receive a commission for opted-in items acquired from the Buy Robux page

  • After a successful Robux purchase, users will see they have received the item and will have the ability to directly join the associated experience from the post purchase page
  • A notification in the bell icon will tell users they have received the item and they will have the ability to directly join an experience from the notification.

Who is eligible to participate

All creators are eligible to opt-in a pass. Items must meet the following criteria:

  • Off-sale or on-sale passes
  • On-sale passes must be greater than 49 Robux and less than 801 Robux
  • Opted-in items must have an image
  • Name, description and image must meet Roblox’s Community Standards
  • The pass must have functionality that matches the title and description
  • Passes that grant paid random items are not allowed

How to opt-in your pass

  • Opt-in the specific pass you want featured by going to the Creator Hub > Monetization > Passes
    • Navigate to a Pass you want to opt-in
    • Select ‘Promotions’
    • Select ‘Include this item in the bonus pool’ and click ‘Submit’
    • Note that it may take up to a day to review items before they can be available for users on the Robux page.
  • Users that go to the Buy Robux page may see a pass based on their play history and engagement on the platform. It is not guaranteed that every opted-in pass will be featured
  • You can optimize your Passes by opting in off-sale items which will be exclusive to this surface

Tracking the performance of my item on the Buy Robux page

Creators can view the performance of their items in the Creator Hub. Navigate to Creator Hub > Experience > Passes > Analytics to view your analytics. You will be able to see the number of impressions your item has received, bonus items acquired because the users purchased from the Buy Robux page and the number of joins into your experience from the users that acquired your item on the Buy Robux page.

What’s next

We want to continue to create more opportunities for creators to grow engagement and ways to earn. In the future, we plan to explore:

  • Other types of bonus items like developer products and avatar items
  • Adding more surfaces on Roblox where users can discover and acquire these bonus items
  • Giving users and creators more choice such as showcasing more than one bonus items at a time

We are excited to see more creators opt-in and benefit from more payers in their experiences.

FAQs:

Can I specify what kind of users should be given my item?

  • Our system will personalize and choose which items users will see on the Buy Robux page based on the user’s engagement patterns.

Do I earn commission for items acquired from Buy Robux?

  • Creators will not receive a commission for opted-in items acquired from the Buy Robux page.

Is there a limit on how many items I can opt-in?

  • You get to choose however many passes you would like to opt-in.

I opted-in bonus item(s) and I’m still not seeing any impressions. Why is that?

  • If you still haven’t seen any impressions, it’s likely that your opted-in bonus item isn’t the most relevant game pass for the users that have visited the “Buy Robux” page. As your experience’s total time spent increases, there is a higher chance of seeing impressions. We also suggest trying opting in different items.

Why should I do this if I don’t get a revenue share?

  • Your game pass will appear on the primary page where users purchase Robux; therefore, this placement provides access to a valuable audience. Once users receive your item, they will have additional Robux in their account that they can spend in your game. Our testing supports this, showing that games whose passes were featured on this page had an incremental increase in both time spent and Robux spent in the experience.

So let me get this straight, you are asking us to promote our gamepasses for no reason or anything whatsoever?

No revenue, no benefits, essentially just giving our gamepasses away for free, and we’re supposed to just accept this with arms open wide?

Who thought of this? Who would ever use this? I could just… advertise the experience itself and the gamepass within it, so it would generate more sales and I get more money.

Just… why?

So I don’t really understand, you want us to help you earn money at our expense with no real benefit on our end? Your greed knows no bounds

You receive a way to incentive users to pay you, we receive the opportunity cost of someone who might have bought the gamepass not buying it because they offer is personalized for people who are a good fit for our games anyway.

Amazing deal. Can’t imagine NOT going through with it.

TLDR: Roblox gets money while we get the chance of obtaining a new player. Which might never play the experience, ever.

We, and yes WE, will be doing this.

Wait so, whats the point of doing this if I don’t get any Robux from this?

Consider though: you get paid in exposure.

Just say all passes are allowed to opt-in

It would be nice you you gave creators something??? Maybe you can boost their experience in the algorithm if they have some free passes? Give a reason to opt-in

I don’t get the hate. This seems like a decent way to consistently advertise your game if you don’t want to constantly run ads, just put in a few low impact game passes

What exposure? The only thing exposed with this is our pockets

The aim is that the user joins the game and since they already have a gamepass, they might have the temptation to buy a gamepass with the robux they just bought.

Yes but my point still stands — I don’t get a commission/any Robux off of it.

The best thing we can do is not opt-in. Just tell your favorite game creators to no opt-in and this will not be used as much.

Good to know. It does makes some sense, as the engagement from those active spending users could potentially boost the creator awards for the experience. Though, if it’s the only game pass in said experience, it would be a huge trade for something that could’ve been a direct transaction.

I don’t seen the general benefit from this. We’re basically just adding our own passes as extra items with robux, but we don’t actually get the robux from it, therefore the player gets the gamepass with real money, but only roblox gets the payment and we don’t? Why should we have to make our gamepasses come with robux packages if we don’t even get anything from it?

I know this can be toggled but still, we won’t get any robux from it if we put it with robux packages!

they promote gamepasses to players who already play the game so it gives creators basically nothing

Someone might see your game and they might play it.

Think of the players who might buy things and might make you money.
