Option to abandon old username

Here’s what I think is wrong with the current system of changing your username:

  • Your old username is still visible on your profile
  • You still appear in search results of your old username

In most cases this is not a problem but sometimes we would just love to get rid of our old usernames for various reasons.

  • You came up with the name when you were very young and now you just hate it (sounds familiar?)
  • Sometimes people even used their real name and now prefer to erase it from the profile completely
  • The list goes on…

Here’s my suggestion:

  • When you change your username for 1.000 robux, the old username is abandoned and other users are now able to claim it (similar to community name changes)

But we need exceptions: Youtubers, Developers and other famous users like to change their names every now and then and often want to switch back. It is also important to avoid impersonation. Therefore, an option to keep your old username as a “backup” (current system).

Here’s the solution:

  • When changing your username you can either pay 1.000 robux to abandon the old one or pay 1.500 - 2.000 robux to keep the old one still attached to your profile.

I am 100% pretty sure (considering how roblox is greedy lately) even if they implement this it will be right the opposite you said, instead of paying 1.000 robux for changing the username and completely erasing it, it will be smh like 10.000 :crazy_face:, and 1.000 robux for only changing the username and keeping the old one tracked under your profile

I’m scared that people who password-guess old accounts will use this very badly…

Example: This one account named hamburger, I find their password, I pay to change their name and abandon the hamburger name. I then rename myself hamburger on my other account.

This could get out of hands pretty quickly.
