When you use Tools>Test>Pair Developer Device while using the SystemMenu UI style, nothing happens, it is as if the dialog box that is meant to appear just goes into the ether. Means that any time I want to be testing my game for mobile with some sort of debugging I have to switch UI styles which involves closing studio and re-opening a place just for testing
The solution is to just use RibbonBar. Any problems you have with RibbonBar that cause you to continue using SystemMenu should be addressed with feature requests and bug reports.
That may be one solution, but most certainly not the solution. Some people prefer the system menu, and as long as it is supported, bugs with the system menu should still be reported and fixed.
“Doctor, it hurts when I do this”
“Don’t do that then”
Some people don’t like the Ribbon interface, and as far as I know the SystemMenu UI is still being supported. If they are removing any support or bugfixes from the old menu then it should probably be posted some where that it shouldn’t be used.
The main issue I have with ribbonBar is that on a 720p screen the bar is far too big for what I like.
Changing to what I feel is a worse UI style shouldn’t be the solution to a problem that shouldn’t exist especially when the buttons should map to the same function anyway
The only reason why you’re not using RibbonBar is because you haven’t actually tried using it. I didn’t like the damn thing either when it came out. But I got over it. Soon I found the button that collapses the ribbon bar. Then shortcuts were added. Then the quick access bar was added. It works well enough. It has polish. It gets new features. It receives support (feel free to continue pretending that SystemMenu is “supported”). I certainly don’t agree with the ribbon bar as a UI, but I’ve just stopped caring. Not liking a UI doesn’t get things done.
I used RibbonBar for about 3 months and it just took twice as long to do everyhting because of the huge icons and nested structure that it has. In systemMenu I can find everything as it is directly in front of me.
Point is that the Pair Developer Device doesnt work, not whether SystemMenu is better than RibbonBar and vice versa. Both are supported, both should be in working order
