Particle System Revamp/Overhaul

The current Particle System (Particle Emitters) is very generic and missing features. In comparison to other game engines, the particle systems allow for much more customization and general features.

  1. 3D/Mesh Particles
    • Roblox Studio has a lack of mesh particles, and the only way to actually create this is by literally making a separate particle system by yourself that would create and destroy instances (Very inefficient
    • Most game engines support this feature, and it’s overall a very nice feature to have on standby, especially for people that really enjoy using particle emitters
  2. Collision
    • Particle emitters in Roblox are extremely limited due to the fact that they lack collision events, which can help particles not cross through walls/appear unrealistic.
    • This would be VERY useful for nearly everybody who may want to make weather systems/general particles that should collide.
  3. Turbulence
    • Something that should 100% be in Particle emitters in Roblox is a turbulence effect/separate instance that would attach to a particle emitter. Turbulence effects allow for more realism in particles and should definitely already be a feature in Roblox
    • Would help create things like more realistic fire/smoke
  4. Sub-Emitters
    • Particle Emitters should also be able to attach Sub-Emitters to particles. This would also be useful for things like explosion effects/more complex particles, and VFX.
    • This one is actually understandable as to why it’s not in the game due to the possibility of lag, but in the near future, I would hope to see this as a future feature
  5. Better Rendering
    • While Roblox allows for different types of rendering, it is still partially limited in comparison to other game engines, which have even more rendering methods for particles (Example: Unity has additive, subtractive, and multiplicative rendering, which helps determine how they appear in contrast to the background)
    • This one also makes sense as to why it’s not a feature yet, but I would also hope to see this in the future as well.
  6. Smaller Things (More particle view distance, higher sizing, fewer limitations)

Roblox has a very small particle system in comparison to other game engines, and it needs to keep up with the technological advancements that these other engines have. Particle Emitters are useful, but for people who occasionally use higher-end particle systems, Roblox’s system seems like it’s lacking far too many features.

A feature like this needs to be taken seriously and there’s just a lot more that roblox is missing.

Bump. We also need to be able to have them not face the camera.
