ParticleEmitter Flipbooks suddenly disabled on previously valid Textures

This happens in Engine and Studio.
This started happening around May 20, 2025.

I have not been able to reproduce this on Mobile but various players are reporting this on PC (Windows 10 & 11)

Context:
Our Flipbook textures have been working for weeks, a couple days ago players started reporting some of them breaking.
The issue is only happening on some sessions, meaning sometimes it works fine if the player starts another session (rejoins).
In Studio, these textures suddenly show a grayed out Flipbook properties section. So they can’t be edited anymore.

To help with testing, I have included several 1024x1024 Flipbook textures with a layout of 8x8 that are working, as well as some that are not working.
I have included the raw texture files + texture ids in the staff-only section, as well as a video example of this issue.

Troubleshooting attempted

  • Ensured textures are SQUARE
  • Reuploaded the valid square 1024x1024 textures

Reproduction steps:

  • Create a part in Workspace
  • Insert a ParticleEmitter into the part
  • Set ParticleEmitter Texture to any of the Broken Texture ids I provided.
  • FlipbookLayout is greyed out

Just adding the ‘working’ texture ids will make the Flipbook properties editable.

Expected behavior

What should happen is, we set the ParticleEmitter Texture to one of the ‘broken’ textures and then we can configure the Flipbook properties of the ParticleEmitter.

I’ve also been having this bug in Studio and the client.

Hello, thanks for the report, we have reverted the change that might be related to this. Can you please try again? (you will need to restart Studio/Client). Thanks.

It’s working now after restarting studio, and looks good in game too. Thanks!
