PC-VR Roblox literally not working with VDXR

It’s simple, when using Virtual Desktop for PCVR, using “VDXR” as OpenXR Runtime just prevents Roblox from launching in VR mode.

System Information:

  • OS: Windows 10
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-10400F @ 2.90 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB

Here’s some possibly helpful info I got when speaking to VD Support:

And, I’m not sure this helps at all, but here’s video showing it:

I believe it is also worth mentioning that this also happens when using SteamVR if this option is turned on

It’s a shame really, VDXR experience has always been smoother for me.

EDIT (Sep 18 2025):

I’ve tried it again today and now neither VDXR (Virtual Desktop) nor SteamVR work, regardless of the Compatibility for OculusXR Plugin being enabled or disabled. I literally cannot play Roblox VR on PC, yet no response.

I’ve also seen more and more posts talking about the same or similar issues.

Thanks for your patience, we’re looking into this now

For me, it’s not just launching in VR, but launching Roblox in general. I had constant crashes on startup even outside of VR just because I had Virtual Desktop Streamer installed. I had to look through my crash dumps to determine the cause and it was due to one of the openxr/vdxr .dlls. After I uninstalled VD Roblox functioned totally normal.

Just curious, will an update be posted within this thread or somewhere else? Thanks.

If it helps, VD developers said they are willing to collaborate on a solution.

vd devs care about roblox vr more than roblox themselves. absolute cinema.

Hi @SharkRayMaster,

I’ve tried it again today and now neither VDXR (Virtual Desktop) nor SteamVR work, regardless of the Compatibility for OculusXR Plugin being enabled or disabled.

On SteamVR, could you try disabling all OpenXR API layers? From what I’ve been seeing, some of the API layers may be causing issues.

VDXR

We’re looking into this, but unfortunately we cannot promise anything for VDXR as we don’t officially support this runtime.

Yes, disabling them all does allow Roblox to detect my VR now, I don’t know why It wouldn’t before.

Thanks for the update, I really hope y’all can do something about VDXR as it is overwhelmingly smoother than SteamVR, I don’t know if VD devs can do something on their end to help.

We’re in contact with the VDXR maintainer and hopefully we’ll get more details as to why this is happening.

Hey all, a quick update.

We have a potential resolution for the VDXR issue in the works. We still need to verify it, but we’re aiming to roll out the fix in Release 700.

Edit to add: Virtual Desktop also adds an Oculus OpenXR API layer, which also breaks Roblox on SteamVR if enabled. This fix should also resolve that problem.

Hey all, updating the thread to say that we haven’t forgotten this, and we’re working on it.

If you’re attempting to launch Roblox VR using the VDXR runtime, the Roblox Player may crash. You may still need to launch via SteamVR or uninstall Virtual Desktop to play Roblox VR.

We’re communicating with the Virtual Desktop team to try to bring this to a full resolution.

Hey everyone. This took a bit longer to sort out than expected, but I believe VDXR is now working with Roblox desktop now. Please try playing Roblox with VDXR and let us know how it goes.
