Okay.. but you are aware that studio drops performance/FPS in v737 without needing to playtest as it stands, right?
Which means.. that this issue has gone beyond being just a playtest issue that’s causing studio performance issues..

Issue is still present in v738.. Opened studio, left it open for 5 minutes in the script editor (doesn’t matter whether or not you leave it open in the script editor or the actual camera view), took more than 20 seconds for my frames to figure themselves out and the following screenshot shows the MOST amount of frames I was getting after studio unfroze itself.

Bump, having the exact same issues with performance and fps drops right now, I have been for the past 4-5 days, and Im unable to work because of how often they happen (EVERY SECOND ATP). Roblox i beg stop releasing half baked updates, this is the worse its been in months.
Edit: after disabling both Script Analysis, and Code Assist. All issues went away, so its either one of those two causing them.
I reenabled script analysis after I assumed the issue was permanently fixed. I’ve disabled it again and FPS has improved (I’ve had code assist disabled in full already) but studio is still hanging on close and (once again) not closing gracefully. (edit: it’s very inconsistent, sometimes it’ll close on first click, sometimes you have to click twice. it for sure hangs with script analysis enabled.) So, there definitely is an issue with script analysis, but there is certainly more issues that Roblox needs to fix instead of releasing updates that ruin the engine further and developers having to suffer for it until they release a new update in hopes it fixes the issues that we’ve had to endure.
There’s no way to rollback engine versions, we get barely any communication regarding fixes for these issues that pop up with these updates that are released. This has been an issue since v735, we’re now on v738 (keep in mind the v738 update literally consists of one “improvement” and nothing more.)
We do need a roll-back feature, ive been screwed over so many times because of badly made updates.
Im on whits end with this engine, its gets good then something goes and ruins it unfortunately.
roblox player is held together by glue and hopes
steps to repro the lag:
edit: decided to make a seperate thread for this because OP is complaining about studio while im complaining about roblox player
I have the same problem. In the recent days the Studio is extremely laggy.
I am getting around 20 FPS while playstesting on an empty baseplate.
my mouse visibly lags when passes through the playtest window.
the script analysis window is closed.
I’ve been dealing with this problem for just over a week. The temporary fix is to add a folder containing these FFlags to the Roblox files. My PC is a potato ( AMD Ryzen 5 7520U ) but there’s no way a Baseplate should run this poorly.
{
"FFlagDebugGraphicsPreferVulkan": "true",
"FFlagDebugGraphicsDisableDirect3D11": "true"
}
NOTE: Roblox shows my CPU time at 9ms (Excellent), yet the game (including the mouse cursor) looks like it’s running at 3–6 fps.
After not touching studio for about 2 weeks, coming back today and updating to the newest version; the issue is still present. Even with script analysis disabled, code assist disabled, frames still drop for whatever given reason without a direct cause. I really.. really was hoping this issue would’ve been fixed by now.
RAM Util is at a steady increase STILL whilst Roblox Studio is open and with the 15 minutes that I’ve had it open has gotten to roughly 70% utilization. Roblox Studio should NEVER be taking this much RAM.

bump. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I am having similar if not, identical problems. But for some reason its only happening in one specific place and every other place seems to be fine. Disabling code assist did not seem to affect anything. Except now I cant turn it back on and now I can no longer program efficiently. My memory usage goes from 34% straight to 100% when I open it and sometimes it will just crash instantly or if I try to test or if I just let it sit there doing nothing. And if I do manage to run a test all the roblox core guis (Menu, inventory, leaderboard, ect.) are all gone and a bunch of errors are thrown into output from presumably core scripts. Tried getting the assistant to figure out what’s going on too but studio just crashes before it can get anywhere useful. Cant disable plugins cus… I dont know how. Manage plugins button has been missing for a while. Not sure if it is related but I could swear I can see half the screen delayed by one frame if I scroll or something.
Oh yeah forgot to mention that the only way to close it is through task manager.
Reinstalling roblox studio doesnt change anything.
I think I’ve narrowed down the issue or at least was able to replicate a source of bad performance.
With almost any large script, most noticeably ones with Heartbeat/Renderstepped loops, studio will drop to immensely low FPS and not return to stable FPS unless your PC is restarted. Restarting studio does not fix the issue and studio requires to be task manager’d in order to close.
