Phone book API - Not receiving calls on mobile (again)

Note: I previously reported this issue in 2024, and it was fixed. But it seems to be happening again. So this is pretty much an exact copy of the previous report.

Currently, it seems as if the phone book API is not sending calls to mobile devices, pretty much defeating the whole point of the feature. This happens 100% of the time for me.

You can still receive call notifications in the Roblox desktop app, but these in-app notifications do not appear on mobile (your phone is supposed to physically ring instead), so it’s now impossible to accept a call on mobile.

Desktop notification

Repro

  1. Have two accounts, who are both voice-enabled, and both have each other added as Connections.
  2. Be logged into account 1 in the Roblox mobile app on a phone.
  3. On account 2, visit Roblox Connect on a different device, and send a call to account 1.
  4. Observe how your phone will not ring.

Account 1 can then open the phone book and see that they have a missed call from account 2.

Device information

  • iPhone SE 3
  • iOS 18.7.2
  • Roblox for iOS, version 2.698.937

Expected behavior

When you call someone, their phone should ring.

Hi @xyrafrost, thanks for the report! We’ll investigate and provide an update soon

Okay this is weird. My phone just randomly started ringing and I immediately got 3 missed call notifications from when I was trying to repro this bug over 40 hours ago with my alt. At the time of receiving these notifications, both accounts had voice chat turned off, I had already removed the other account as a connection, and I had even deactivated the account.

I don’t know what that was about, but this issue is still not fixed.

Interesting, thanks for sharing! Is it possible you had do not disturb or any similar mechanisms enabled on your device at the time?

Do Not Disturb was probably enabled when I received these extremely-delayed notifications as I typically always keep it on, but I did make sure to turn it off when I was testing calling myself, and that didn’t have any effect.

Besides, even if it was enabled when I called myself, Do Not Disturb doesn’t delay notifications, and as far as I’m aware I don’t have anything set up which would be doing that.

@Roblox_HaruHaru, are there any updates on this bug report? I’m also experiencing this bug!

Could you help describe what are the issues you’re observing?

I’m observing the same issue that was posted in the bug report. My devices don’t ring when I get a call.

Apologies for the delay. I believe we have found the issue and have fixed it so it should no longer be occurring. If it is still happening please let me know.

@weselito If you are still seeing the bug, please let me know the device type you are attempting to receive the call on.

I just tested and I’m able to receive calls again. However, I only get call notifications if the Roblox app is open, which shouldn’t be the case.

Also, I just discovered another bug: Accepting a call will always turn on your camera, even if you have “Camera Input” disabled in your privacy settings, and you won’t be able to turn off your camera, since having “Camera Input” disabled also disables the button in Self View.

Roblox is sunsetting the calling APIs. Closing this thread.
