We launched Avatar backgrounds a few weeks ago to let players personalize their profile pages, and now we’re opening creation up to you. If you want to be among the first creators to build in this new category, apply here by August 13.
This pilot program gives you early access to test and shape the new creation flow. You can build in this category early and be among the first to publish and sell on the Marketplace.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the pilot program, creators must meet the following criteria:
IDV and active Roblox Plus subscribers
Clean moderation history with no actions taken in the past 12 months.
Clean DMCA history.
At least one item published on the Marketplace in the past 30 days.
Signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
How to Apply
Application review: Applications are reviewed on a first come, first served basis. Once we’ve reached capacity, the application will close. You’ll be notified via DevForum if you have been selected.
Selection criteria: To be eligible, creators must meet our creator requirements for uploading and publishing 3D content and have abided by our Marketplace policies in the past.
Upload first, publish shortly after: If you’re accepted in the first few days of the pilot, you’ll be able to upload backgrounds right away but not publish them for sale yet. We’ll notify accepted creators directly once publishing is enabled.
Time and time again the issues associated with early access UGC programs that allow public publishing to the catalog have been brought up by UGC creators. It is unfair and causes an imbalanced marketplace.
Why are you guys continuing to follow the same rollout strategies you followed with the initial launch of UGC accessories some years ago, even though it harms UGC creators? It was a problem then, and it’s still a problem now. UGC creators continue to be ignored on this.
Would help if you specify what the creation process for a background looks like. Have to check if that workflow lives in my deck of cards already or not. Expecting the same workflow as for a skybox?
I hope this doesnt become animation pilot part 2 where they say theyll respond but then ghost u for 2 months but ill try staying optimistic this sounds like a great addition especially so soon(and at last ill have a reason to justify improving my drawing skills!)
Been waiting for this day to happen, Just applied & got some backgrounds ready to go!
Excited for more UGC created things this year, it has opened up more ways for creativity on the platform.
