Planting your foot into making your game

Hey, developers.

Recently I’ve been struggling with actually planting my foot into the ground and making a game.

It’s not that I can’t make the game, I just have so many ideas in all kinds of genres, and do not know what one to make. For this specifically I want to focus on only one.

I’ve attempted to make multiple at the same time, but that never works. It’s too much work and burns me out quickly.

If you have any ideas on how I can decide what games to make, or a way for me (or anyone) to be able to put my (or their) foot down and start the game, feel free to share! :slightly_smiling_face:

Flip a coin until you only have one idea left, then set a certain amount of time you want to develop each day.

for me, I always just focus on smth that’s small and manageable. just as long as its fun and memorable, then I know I’ve made smth good.

if you’re getting a bit stuck or indecisive with ideas, my friend made a game idea generator thingy a few days prior. you can try it out if you want.

hope this helps.

Deciding which idea to build upon can be hard. For each of your ideas, try to consider:

  • Is it within my skillset?

  • Can it be monetized well?

  • Is it unique?

  • How long will it take for me to complete it (approximately)?

  • Will I need to recruit outside help?

I wouldn’t recommend doing something that requires a lot of time to complete, a lot of knowledge, and a lot of resources (like RPGs) if it’s your first-ever project. My first game, The Mines, was done poorly but I learned a lot and even earned a few Robux from it. After that, I was able to move on to harder projects.

Hope this helps, whatever you choose to do, I wish you the best of luck .

This is really good, and puts it into perspective. Things like deciding whether I will need outside help or is it within my skillset are good things to keep in mind for anyone.

I see a lot of people attempt huge games and never finish due to the overwhelming amount of work, or coming across things they just can’t do.
