(Greetings, thank you for taking this precious time to read what I need help with exactly.)
So recently I have been wondering what kind of building design that takes the players interest. I wished to know what kind of building design most players in the Roblox community take interest in, and what makes them want to play the games created by certain developers.
Could the answer be low poly,3d models, roblox studio (regular building),realistic builds. I really want answers from experienced game creators that might have the solution of what players desire the most when it comes to gameplay and experience.
I am a Low Poly 3d modeller and a regular Roblox Studio builder sometimes depending on the situation I decided to be in.
(What makes the game interesting with the building design included.)
Visual design is a great way to pull in players but it alone doesn’t keep players. Good design that’s aesthetically pleasing yet function can be difficult and require a lot of knowledge and testing.
For example, Power Simulator’s map - while the flat shading/no texture (not low poly, low poly isn’t a style) style may have pulled in players to the game, it was the mechanics and how the player moved around the map that made them want to stay. I could have made the exact same map but with textures and additional detail that could have pulled in players as well, but that was a style choice decided by the project lead.
To contrast this, for the 2018 Egg Hunt, the visuals pulled in players and made for good screen shots, but it was the gameplay that was actually why people enjoyed the game. We could have made the entire game in flat shading/no texture style and still had the same success, but again, it was a style choice we decided on early in the development process.
Basically I’m saying there is no “golden style” that you can use because it really relies on gameplay and how the map and gameplay come together seamlessly. Sure an aesthetic map can pull in players, but it won’t keep them.
