[Plugin] Day and Night Cycle: No Code Solution for Custom Time & Lighting

Howdy folks! I’m SunkenCity, one of the three developers on Abyssal! I decided to make an advanced day/night cycle plugin that has more control than most and needs no code!

Encouraged by my friend Onogork (he’s really amazing and makes incredible plugins!), I gave it a shot and made something that wasn’t on the market. It’s an easy enough problem for a lot of more programming-focused individuals, but I wanted to make a little premium plugin to make creating more custom day/night cycles possible!

Current features include:

  • Easy controls, zero coding: Adjust day length, night length, and start time using a simple editor that’s perfect for beginners.
  • Instant atmosphere templates: Choose from Sunny Day, Golden Hour, Foggy Morning, Blood Moon, Neon Night, Aurora, and more to set the perfect mood in seconds.
  • Test and preview phases in Studio, then customize everything with the built-in settings or advanced runtime API.
  • Lightweight, safe, and optimized for performance!
  • Give your players a realistic sunrise to sunset experience with a premium plugin that’s a step above the basic free alternatives.

You can find the plugin here, please feel free to let me know if you have any feedback!

Huge thanks again to Onogork for encouraging me to go for it, and also for making the icon, he’s wonderful!

Really cool plugin, I just feel the UI could use a little improvement to make it more fluent and smoother. But $5 for a day & night plugin feels a bit overpriced, especially since it’s a pretty simple no-code solution. I’d honestly expect more features or polish for that price.

Unfortunately creators are forced into pricing plugins at a minimum of $5 because that’s what the price floor is for some reason for plugins.

yeah I get that, the price floor thing makes sense tho. but it’d be nice if they at least offered a free version with basic features, and then a pro version with the extra stuff. That way more people could try it out first.

There’s actually a really good refund feature for plugins if I recall correctly, so if you end up not liking it, you are more than welcome to refund it!

And yes, $5 is the price floor for plugins.

Oh thats actualy good to know, I didn’t realize there was a refund option. I get the pricing thing now, and I respect that. I still think a free/lite version would help more people try it out, but I appreciate the explanation.

Yayyy happy to see that, have a great day

Wait so you can actually just cheat the system?
I know that any plugin you own can be downloaded from the website(I believe it’s only with extensions)
So you would just get it, download it and refund it

This plugin looks seriously great, I’ve always had problems with setting up day/night cycles especially with multiple settings and varying day/night durations. This plugin should make it a lot easier to create believable cycles.

One suggestion, could you add support for “fake” night cycles? By fake nights, I mean nights which actually have a day ClockTime, with just a moon texture replacing the sun + a custom nighttime skybox. This is crucial for more realistic and interesting nights. I believe The Wild West implements this pretty nicely.

Gotcha, is the concern that the automatic lighting changes from the default Roblox day/night are something you’d want more finer-grained control over?

Yes, at the moment when the ClockTime goes past certain thresholds, Roblox lighting instantly switches between day/night lighting which looks very jarring. Especially when transitioning to night, there’s a 1-2 hour period where the lighting is pitch black because neither the sun nor the moon are creating any useful light.

ClockTime = 19.2, clouds still lit by the “sun” (which has fully set long ago), and no shadows or moon lighting is visible

ClockTime 19.3, suddenly clouds are lit by the moon, shadows are back and everything is brighter

Another major factor is that default Roblox night skies look pretty terrible with the rainbow stars that flicker strangely. Being able to customize the night skybox (by actually having daytime lighting disguised as nighttime lighting) would be great.

Awesome, thank you so much for the thorough explanation of the problem; it’s officially on my to-do list for the plugin, I greatly appreciate your help with this!!

No you cant, you only can IF YOU own the plugin. but if you dont own it, the download options wont show (BTR EXTENSION etc)

exactly what I said

by saying refund it, I meant to buy it and then refund it, ya know?

Howdy y’all!

I finally found the documentation on the refund situation:

Not sure if this answers your questions, but it should hopefully allow you to give the plugin (or any other) a shot before you commit to keeping it, and see if it fits your needs! :>
