Plugin Screenshot Support in Studio

Greetings Creators :cactus::alien:

You can now capture :camera_with_flash: individual plugin windows within Studio with Ctrl + Shift + 2 and the Screenshot Plugin action.

Here’s a beautifully formatted table of the resulting images from each window’s screenshot :magnifying_glass_tilted_left:

Like all plugin actions this hotkey is configurable if you prefer something else!

This will make it easier to…

  • quickly capture the full output window to send to your team.
  • quickly capture a plugin to report an issue to the plugin creator.
  • quickly capture a specific viewport without capturing the rest of Studio.
  • have AI help you develop a plugin (in the nearish future).

Future updates will include:

  • Configurable output settings, allowing you to choose whether captured frames save directly to a file or copy to your clipboard.
  • MCP support (This is a high priority for us, and is actively in progress!)
    • This requires a bit of a rewrite on how we are capturing the visuals of Studio so it can function even when Studio is in the background. Stay tuned :eyes:
  • Support for dialogs

Let us know if you have any questions, issues, or feedback. Thank you :cactus:

Good announcement, but when will we be granted EditableImage support for CaptureService?

I thought this would let one finally screenshot an Instance or something without the background.

I want to screenshot an Instance and remove the skybox background without using RenderDoc on Vulkan API, because the other API crashes Studio.

Does the screenshot go to the clipboard or is or will that be configureable if not already?

This… Might be cool…

guys? i think i might have a theory…

This is kinda useless, but also, what do you MEAN that we couldn’t do this before? What did plugin windows do so differently in the studio UI code that they couldn’t get screenshotted? And why did you change it now?

This is just a tool built-in to studio that allows you to capture specific widgets rather than your entire screen.

You could always screenshot widgets, but now you can do it natively without having to manually crop to the widget bounds.

From what it seems, the main objective of this is to enable MCP support for screenshotting specific windows so eventually, AI can develop plugins more efficiently with a direct view of what its working on (the plugin window).

first of all, this is off topic, please don’t post things off topic to announcements :frowning: and also, this should already be possible, if i’m understanding your request. I have a project that entirely relies on editing captures and it works in production.

are we going to have a api for this?

wow that is a really beautifully formatted table of resulting images!

There still isn’t EditableImage support for CaptureService :sob:

Please do give me whatever magical code you have that allows editing of captured screenshots.

This makes it so much easier to make plugins and showcases for them. W Roblox :fire:

Lovely update, honestly!

Though I noticed it doesn’t work when focused on the script editor, which is most of the time for me. X)
Is there a chance that it could get resolved? Thank you!!

Can this support capturing the full contents of a scrollable window?

This could be useful for reporting Assistant bugs, but only if it can actually capture the entirety of the logs at once, yet even that would result in huge images, so I’m not sold this is the right avenue for log-reports.

This is not a good idea and it will allow captured screenshots to be taken and stored on a remote server off-platform

Yes, yes!!

Right now, allowing the agent to take control of the computer is the only reliable way to diagnose visual bugs. Allowing it to debug without interrupting everything else is the missing link!

And… What’s bad about that exactly?

You don’t need me to tell you that it’s extremely invasive and is a heavy privacy violation
