For the sake of this post, I am going to keep it concise to exactly what is genuinely problematic to a game-breaking level and why that needs to change.
In SCP: Roleplay, we do not use the chat window. All chat happens using bubble chat and the in-game radio system.
So far this has worked out pretty well. We have moderators, but we also have plenty of in-game systems to prevent abuse.
However, this is now threatened by the addition of a forced, relatively arbitrary 10 second cooldown for preset messages.
I am not going to argue about whether or not such a cooldown is necessary. I can see different potential reasons as to why it was proposed and is being added.
It makes sense (somewhat) for the chat window. But we are not using the chat window.
Adding a 10 second cooldown to preset messages that are entirely bubble chat based is completely destructive to the gameplay. It’s not even about the social aspect. The cooldown makes it impossible to play the game properly.
For example, we have a system where an enemy team can enter the facility and complete different objectives. With a 10 second cooldown, how are players supposed to mention to other players when they see this enemy team in the facility? (this is just one example, there are more cases where this would apply!)
The cooldown seriously needs to be reconsidered. At the very least, a distinction between bubble chat and non-bubble chat would go an extremely long way here.
