Proposal: Add a Lighthearted Community Category ('Meme Land'), Accessible to Unverified 13+ Users

Hi everyone,

With the recent changes to age requirements and the removal of the Lounge, the DevForum has lost its only space for low-stakes, social, community-driven interaction. A lot of users relied on that area to decompress, share humor, and build connections outside of strictly technical topics.

I’d like to propose adding a new category dedicated to lighthearted, community-friendly posts – informally, something like Meme Land.

:warning: Please note that this is a mockup, nothing was actually altered. :warning:

The idea isn’t to encourage spam or low-effort content, but to provide a clearly defined place for:

  • Harmless jokes,
  • Community bonding,
  • Fun, creative posts,
  • And light social interaction

This would help keep other categories focused while still giving the developer community a healthy outlet for expression. It could also reduce off-topic posting elsewhere by giving people a designated space for casual conversation. The idea is to not migrate people away from other threads, it’s to clean it up and move it to this category.

I believe a category like this would restore some of the community spirit that is about to be lost when the Lounge is archived, while still keeping things organized or moderated.

Thank you for reading this.

No, I think the devforum should only be used for game development and bug reports.

I can understand that perspective. The goal is to not replace technical discussion, it’s to protect it. Right now, casual posts end up in Roblox-Discussion because there’s nowhere else for them to go. A dedicated lighthearted category would give that content a home and help keep the technical sections a lot cleaner.

anyway roblox would definitely not call it ‘meme land’, i think they should just repurpose Lounge for this or rename it

I think if you have this new thread and people can’t post in the main threads anymore this new thread would be filled with stupid memes and people actually trying to ask questions.

It would just really help with making the forum cleaner and redirects posts somewhere else instead.

I get what you mean. The idea isn’t to take users away from the main threads, it’s to give casual posts a proper home so they stop ending up in the wrong place.

The name “Meme Land” is just a placeholder - the core idea is just giving casual posts a proper home so they stop spilling into Roblox Discussion. Roblox could absolutely choose a different name or repurpose the Lounge; the important part is the function.

I do not agree with your feature request.

“DevForum” actually means Developer Forum. A place for developers. Not a general chatting platform for children to spam rubbish and pollute discussions. This isn’t going to happen. If people like you could control yourselves and didn’t turn the Lounge category into a literal wasteland, it wouldn’t be getting removed in the first place.

Summed it up perfectly ^

I understand that the forum should be professional, but we need a MemeLand category so that all of the off-topic posts can be moved over to Meme Land. We are all just so bored from the age check update that we started posting memes on the DevForum.

I think my thoughts on opening the lounge from 2021 are relevant here (perhaps replace “like we’re doing now” with “like we were doing then”):

Using AI to help write your post / replies does not help your case.

people just LOVE insulting the lounge users to feel better about themselves dont they

learn to have some fun (and to mute the category, too)

Corporations always have room to have fun. You can’t just always be sterile. We’ve moved on from a sterile platform.

Sorry, this is out of scope for the Developer Forum after the upcoming safety changes. We’re also removing part of Lounge as announced for the same reason.
