What do you want to achieve?
I want to understand the best practices for wrapping up my development projects and safely transitioning away from Roblox development, while keeping my account, assets, and reputation intact.
What is the issue?
Over time, I’ve found that the direction Roblox is heading in — especially how it’s perceived outside the platform — is starting to negatively affect my work outside of Roblox. For example, if I tell someone professionally that I’ve made games on Roblox, the first thing some people say is “Aren’t those the dating games for kids?” That’s not what I stand for, and I’ve never made those types of games.
Since most of my paid work is outside of Roblox now, I’m considering stepping away completely. But I want to make sure I exit cleanly and professionally.
All you have to do is quit using Roblox Studio and move on to something else. Your account and assets aren’t going anywhere, and I doubt that dating games for kids will be the first thing that comes to mind when someone outside of the Roblox community thinks about Roblox. You could also specify what kind of games you’ve made on Roblox.
The bottom line is that you’re overthinking it. Just quit and move on if that’s what you want to do.
I get what you’re saying, and I appreciate the straightforward advice. But this isn’t just me overthinking it — this comes from real experience.
There was a time I told a potential client that I worked on coding and game development, and when I mentioned Roblox, she completely changed her tone. She said she didn’t like the platform and decided not to move forward with me. That was a serious opportunity lost — not because of my skills, but because of the reputation tied to the platform in her eyes.
It’s not about the engine itself — I actually like working in Studio. But when you’re dealing with people outside the Roblox community, they don’t always see the difference between what you actually made and what they’ve heard online or seen in the media. That perception can hurt, especially when your main income isn’t even coming from Roblox.
So yeah, I am quitting and moving on — not because I can’t handle it, but because my name and business mean too much to me. I just wanted to explain that it’s deeper than just pressing “quit.”
