As a Roblox Developer, it is currently too hard to develop and live my life as a proud Robloxian with my friends when the max recipients for PMs on the DevForum is literally 5.
The forum PM I’m in, like 95% of the time the people added was wanted/asked. maybe it being wanted isn’t the issue, just the 30 people per time thing which idk why that’d be an issue.
There was the occasional time where someone would add someone else they thought were chill, but then that person started adding staff as a joke/trolling. And the occasional adding crazed every once in a while.
The solution to this unwanted adds to PM, I think, would be a request system. Not limiting the recipient amount to 5. The current “solution” doesn’t stop unwanted adds. It stifles the PM group chat concept, which is I think the actual point behind the change. Not unwanted PM adds.
For this request system, maybe seeing who’s in a PM and the title and first post before accepting to be entered entirely.. that could work. That way you don’t have to see everything. Or, maybe not even the original post, just the title and who’s in it.
The problem is they really don’t want you to be in large GCs anyways, on multiple occasions I’ve seen staff here say the GCs aren’t really an intended use case for the forum anyways even though there are totally valid use cases for it but I digress.
I find it really weird they’ve been adding all of these restrictions to the site in the last week or two without announcing any of it but whatever.
How can they claim to be building the future of communication when their only effort so far has been to actively stifle the communication of friends and colleagues with meager warning beforehand? This is just ridiculous, there wasn’t even a small warning that hinted this change was being made? Or a reason given for the change?
This IN ADDITION to the change that makes private messages 18+ will just kill them off entirely, which is just completely absurd for the state of the forum. This means users that are estimated <18 will need to scour the forum for an existing post (the search algorithm sucks mind you) and then make a new topic every time they need a quick answer to something, as opposed to just messaging somebody that openly helps people who message them such as @Reditect.
This applies to scripting questions that are related to how someone did something but is just off-topic enough to the main post itself that it wouldn’t warrant a post in that topic, for (a probably bad) example, asking how somebody worked around a limitation in a community resource, in that case, you can normally send a message.
Do they not want us to keep communicating on their platforms? This will also genuinely only make people switch to alternative external platforms, which are LESS safe.
This is basically the only thing I agree with here, I’d like to know why they have been updating the forum so much with basically no notice besides a single reply to a thread if we’re lucky but otherwise nothing. I’m strongly against all of the ID/age verification changes and it’s caused me to quit developing on the platform entirely but the DM change just seems targeted at stopping megachats that use storage on their server and bother moderators because you guys are immature and invited mods to them all the time. I’m not sure about the rest but it seems like they knew what they were doing.
Our message thread probably hasn’t invited a mod in over a year, and when that did happen it was because one of us invited an outsider who then decided to invite the mods and waste their time, after which we promptly made a new thread without the user
I’m not sure about the other threads but I don’t see why they can’t just ban people instead of ruining it for everyone
This won’t prevent anyone from inviting moderators at all though, if they really wanted to invite mods they could just create a new message. This just hinders people that are actually trying to talk.
